  • LMG claims that an investigation by a third party found the allegations of toxic work conditions and sexual misconduct as „unfounded and unfair“. It’s of course anyone’s guess what the reality looks like. They definitely have improved their reviews and seem much less error prone these days.

That union thing is bullshit tho. Linus never claimed he would refuse to let his workers unionise (in fact, iirc, he couldn’t even legally do so in Canada), he just (repeatedly) stated, that he’d see it as a failure on his and his company’s side, if his employees felt the need to unionise in the first place. That’s a big difference.

Can’t say anything to that part as I do not remember it. But I personally believe it to be a non-issue until there’s precedent. Politically, Linus generally seems to be fairly sane. He’s openly a huge fan of Lina Khan, for example and has openly critcised the current US-administration a number of times.

  • They did acknowledge #1 and #2 as mistakes, miscommunication and growing pains and vowed to do better. I think it was a bit overblown and handled in bad faith by GN‘s reporting. Not that that’s an excuse but imo they did their best to rectify that situation. The reporting has been more accurate and bo other scandal of this type has happened, so far. The investigation about the working conditions and sexual harassment concluded those allegations were „unfounded and unfair“, to use LMG’s words. They did not get into details and it is a he-said/she-said situation. It’s anyone’s guess what/whom to believe.I think, all in all, Linus stepping back from the CEO position (which, to be clear, he did a little while before those problems came to light) improved upon most, if not all of the problems, as far as I can tell. I do still watch LTT on occasion but less so. Primarily though, because both, my interests changed as did their content.

  • Ay, fellow aphantasia haver

  • There are copper golems now? Man, I hasn’t even even been that long since I last played Minecraft and I‘d be completely lost by now…

  • How about the inbetween: a AA game

  • Ja, ist eher vergleichbar mit beyond meat.

  • It’s not broken though, if it doesn’t work by design, which is the case for Win 11‘s system requirements.

Doesn’t mean it’s good design but it’s not technically broken.

    1. People usually do prefer the comfort of familiarity. That’s not a cop out. That’s just how most people work. Why do you think the most unanimously hated windows versions were the ones that changed the most? Why do you think the basic design of macOS hasn’t changed at all in more than two decades? People like what they’re used to. And a lot of them are used to Windows and have been for decades.
    2. While yes, they can learn, a lot have acquired their (probably indeed very basic) knowledge of windows over the duration of 20+ years. It’s quite a jump to suddenly change that. It’s possible to learn, of course but it’s also necessary to lean and most people aren’t willing to do that if what they have works well enough.
    3. This does indeed come back to people prefer what they’re used to. Of course that also goes for available software. People are used to Microsoft Office, Acrobat Reader, Outlook, the Creative Cloud, etc.For some of those there are good Linux/FOSS alternatives, but for some there aren’t. I, for example, cannot switch my work macbook for a Linux machine. It’s simply not possible because of the software I need. My desktop at home does run Linux though, because there I don’t have the same hurdles.
    4. That is indeed a big part that deserves more focus. A mainstream PC manufacturer (like Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) shipping a line of devices with Linux instead of Windows, especially if they pass the licensing savings on to the customers might do a lot for Linux adoption, similar to what, for example, the Steam deck did.Because a lot of people don’t actually care. Yea, they’re more comfortable with Windows but in the end, all they need is a browser. Why do you think chromebooks sell so well?
  • I prefer a password system that I can memorise or derive.Although, fair, I do also use a pm.

  • It’s more about the training data, I suppose. Those thorns getting into that might potentially mess something up? Idk, it’s just what I they said.

  • Either them or someone else also doing it (not sure if there’s more than one) explained they’re doing it to poison the data for AI

  • Well, that’s why, at least on iOS, you can remove it, if you don’t like it.

  • It did transparency but it didn’t do refractions

  • If a video editing software crashing on occasion was ground for concern, no one would use Adobe Premiere anymore

  • Haven‘t used openshot or shotcut but I have tried kdenlive and I found it to be perfectly adequate with a fairly nice and user friendly interface. What makes you unsure about it?
