It’s a demonstation of a viable alternative system of governance and economics that prioritizes the masses. It would also be rather inconvenient if this was a place that any US Citizen could just pop off to for the weekend. It’s not an embargo of any product or service. It’s an embargo of ideas and protects the lie.
This would assume that the ultimate goal of those developing these massive AIs is the common good. Actions speak louder than words though and those demonstrate a desire to consolidate wealth and power at the humanity's expense. They'll be pretty comfortable in their apocalypse proof bunkers while the rest of turn into compost. You won't find empathy from those who don't consider you to be of their species. We are all beneath them and therefore expendable.
I had setup some Lemmy accounts a while back but was procrastinating on settling into them. Received a 2-week ban for a Rule 1 violation because suggesting that users own their hardware is apparently violent. Took the opportunity to finally finish setting up in the Fediverse and haven't opened Reddit since.
