  • A "benefit" of using RAF helos is it the flight hours. Pilots typically need a certain number of flight hours every month to maintain their certs, so they'll likely be flying anyways. Having them fly senior ministers around instead of other training flights technically is free, as the flights were going to happen anyways.

  • Not even sold back. We need just one national telecom provider to ensure that everyone gets the required minimum of service. It's up to the private sector to offer better deals or better service, but the government should provide a minimum level of connectivity for everyone.

  • As much as I detest SpaceX and the literal child in charge of the company, their craft at least has a track record of safely bringing astronauts to and from the ISS. Boeing doesn't even have that.

  • There's a not-insignificant chance it was the only non-painted exhibit in the entire museum. Everything else I saw was a painting...

On a side note, highly recommend the National Portrait Gallery if you're ever in DC.

  • Last time I went to the National Portrait Gallery in DC, the Hall of Presidents directly abutted the Civil Rights area.

Trumps presidential portrait (a photo, not a painting, as distinguished by the medium being listed as "inkjet printer" on the plaque) was on one side of a freestanding wall on the center of the room, and maybe 30ft away was a very large portrait of John Lewis.

The impression given was that Trump was losing a staring contest with John Lewis, which felt very apt.

  • So it's not actually to the Norwegian government. The trust account for the Palestinian Authority is just located in Norway. That makes a lot more sense.

  • Depends on the roadkill, honestly. Deer as roadkill, especially if you're the one who hit it (or saw it hit) isn't too bad, because it's already an animal normally eaten, and is reasonably fresh.

Now a raccoon that's been on the side of the road for god knows how long...that's a different story.

  • Sounds 100% on Bell then. Because I guarantee the procurement contract was written to specify exactly what mil standards the material used is required to meet, and that the prime is responsible for verifying compliance

  • All Ukraine has to do is nothing. The Kuznetsov has about a 75% chance of sinking every time it puts to sea

  • Curious which American election observers are neutral parties then, if you refuse to believe that the Carter Center is unbiased. Because I'll bet you I can use similar mental gymnastics to tie every single American election observer to one side or the other (or even both, just for fun).

  • Could be as simple as the old "no leader is as popular as a war time leader" but.

See also: Argentina and the Falkland Islands. Every so often, an Argentinian leader starts rattling his sabre over the Falklands to drum up support at home, despite the islands population being overwhelmingly in favor of staying British.

  • DLC in this context is pretty widely understood to mean in game content. So additional areas, cosmetics, missions, etc. not the soundtrack. Steam just categorizes the soundtracks as DLC for games in general.

  • I have not had first hand experience, but I would recommend you find out if the degree program you're interested in from them is accredited or not. The school I went to for undergrad has ABET accreditation for the Mechanical Engineering program (and the applicable accreditations for all other degrees). A lot of employers do require your program be accredited, and whether or not TECH has the applicable accreditations will tell you a) whether it would be a good move for you career-wise and b) whether you can expect the appropriate amount of rigor from the program (i.e. The program may be a degree-mill rather than an actual learning opportunity).

  • Why does lemmy.ml use the "ML" country code for Mali?

    Jump
  • I think the meaning is that the Lemmy.ml fascists aren't actually communist.

  • If your population is actively starving, or it's the dead of winter you first need one, then the other.

  • I feel like that comes down to misconceptions over X-ray vs. MRI. Because you absolutely CANNOT have any metal on you for an MRI.

  • The frustrating part is that it's just a giant fucking advertising billboard when they aren't hosting events inside.

  • You can 100% get a clearance if you've smoked within 7 years of applying for one. Hell, you can get a clearance if you smoked within the last year. You just have to a) disclose the fact, b) be able to show mitigations as to why smoking weed won't be an issue while you have a clearance, and then c) not do it while you have a clearance. It ends up being not so much about the fact that you smoke weed as it is that you're not following the law, and that's the real clearance risk (from their POV). Getting a clearance is really about proving you're trustworthy to the investigator.

  • He was wearing one. Later in the BBC article it mentions him posting pictures of his ruined helmet on twitter Instagram
