  • Clear and precheck are two separate things, clear only let's you skip to the front of the line. If you want to enjoy the benefits precheck brings to the table with clear then you have to purchase both. It's worth mentioning that most people do not pay for clear as it's usually given out of a benefit for some credit cards and even some jobs that fly a lot.

  • And the worst part is that charging for local drives costs as much as gas (because that’s what the free market has determined people will pay) so there’s no savings to owing an EV unless you own a space that you can charge your car off your own home power and not a public one.

    Do you have a source on that because the national average is 0.35¢ per kWh for DC fast charging. That means to completely charge the avarage ev battery (71.8kWh) would cost $25.13. The national average for gas is $3.62 as of today meaning it would cost an average car (13 gallon tank) a whopping $47.02 to fill up.

  • I posted this in another thread but it doesn't, DMA boards are capable of spoofing other PCIE device IDs which was one of the few ways vanguard used to detect DMA boards. Realistically the only anti cheat that actually works are replay based community voted convictions such as counter strike's overwatch.

  • Maybe I'm missing something but how could finding out who's yodeling a movie be rather easy when you would have to decrypt the traffic to determine if it was a movie and not just normal traffic? I get that because of TCP/IP you can tell someone is using I2P but wouldn't you have to compromise the garlic encryption layer to determine what exactly they are doing?

  • If they are trying at great leghth to block IPs associated with piracy, it isn't that much harder to get known VPN IPs blocked too especially when they could use the 'why won't someone think of the children' card and claim VPNs are solely used for CSAM and drug markets.

    The smart move would be to skip VPNs and move over to I2P. For those who don't know I2P is kinda like if tor and torrents had a baby that was a VPN on crack. Unlike a VPN where your traffic is encrypted and sent to one centralized server, I2P encrypts and routes your data through multiple servers and unlike tor every client by default is a node that data can be routed through.

  • It's not just driving a off road capable vehicle exclusively on road but mainly installing modifications that look like it would increase the vehicles off roading capabilities but in reality hinder it. Take the lift on the truck i posted above, it has a long travel suspension which when installed correctly would vastly improve the trucks ability to handle trails at high speeds however because they chose height over suspension travel they've created a truck with none of the benefits of a long travel suspension with a vastly increased risk of rolling over. They are trying to cosplay as a monster truck without understanding that a monster truck has tires that are almost as wide as they are tall for stability which you physically cannot do on a road legal truck without it being two or three lanes wide.

  • Honestly we don't need that charging speed right now at least in the US. We need more L2 chargers where people leave their cars idle where charge time is irrelevant. To satisfying the "but sometimes people" what would be vastly improve the EV road tripping experience isn't changing speed but quality and quality. No one should pull up to a DC charger and have to wait in line because two of the four chargers are off line and the other two are providing derated power.

  • the investment into Amtraks stock is, sadly, not.

    Amtrak's investment into rolling stock is there however it hasn't come to fruition yet.

    For short/medium haul amtrak has over 500 Siemens Venture cars (aka airo) on order with them starting service in 2026.

    For long haul amtrak is in the beginning stages of selecting a manufacture to replace the superliners with expected rollout in "early 2030"

    It’s also running a shorter consist that it would have traditionally because of a lack of units. Increasing the length of the consist

    Amtrak right now is in a tricky situation which is why their running short consists even though there's demand for longer trains. The problem is there's a significant amount of damaged cars (63 to be expected, page 85) awaiting for repairs.

    A lot of the issue amtrak is currently facing was directly caused by Trump slashing funding for amtrak in 2020 when amtrak needed it the most leading to amtrak to furlough 2000 employees which critically included mechanical employees. When amtrak should have been using the time to catch up on their maintenance they sadly fell behind and still have yet to recover.

  • You don't necessarily have to pay for hook ups anymore. I'd argue solar and some LiFe batteries are more than enough to power someone living a modest lifestyle. For water/sewage there's plenty of places to fill up/drop off like at some interstate rest stops.
