  • Where does it say that Google is blocking all side loading?

It says they are blocking the installing of unsigned apps. This is the macOS Gatekeeper being the only option on Android. You can still download and install apps that aren't in the Play Store. So the EU will still love this as 3rd party apps can still exist, but at the same time anything "illegal" can be reported to them immediately.

  • Source for this ban claim?

I know there is a ban on not being able to install unsigned apps, but it won't limit apps to only Google Play apps.

Please, while the whole situation is BS, adding complete misinformation to the mix isn't going to help.

  • Considering:

    A) You can still install any app you want beyond the Play Store (the rule is that developers need to get all their apps signed, and doesn't effect the end user technically)

    And

    B) Its most likely being done because of the EU, it's a part of the DSA (https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/europe-fit-digital-age/digital-services-act_en). The "trader status", and other parts against illegal content)

The EU most like has already set them straight and this is the result.

  • If you like VN style games, I'd recommend "Hotel Dusk: Room 215" and "Last Window: The Secret of Cape West". (Same genre as Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright). Both are on the DS, and each takes advantage of the hardware as well.

  • I have a N3DS. As for when I last tried, would have been 8 to 12 months ago max.

And the Vita doesn't has multiple days of all day gaming, it has about the same amount of play time as the 3DS, but it can be left in sleep mode for much longer. After 2-3 days of being in sleep mode (normal, not an emulator), the 3DS battery is drained and i need to recharge it. The Vita can sit for a week or 2 and barely have lost any power.

  • What PSX games did you try? I tried Silent Hill and it was more of a sideshow than a game.

As for the power drain, I don't always have time to charge every night and that's when I see the problems. (Traveling and such)

  • A used PS Vita would be better I feel. Similar size, and just as hackable (Emu4Vita). Except a Vita has:

    • better screen
    • Bluetooth audio (more and more headphones are Bluetooth)
    • A functional sleep mode (the 3ds doesn't go into sleep mode unless it's a 3DS/DS game. So any emulator game just turns off the screen but still runs and drains the battery)
    • A possibly standard connector (the 2000 series uses micro-USB)

The only advantage a 3DS has is that it has 3DS and DS games, but the Vita has PS Vita games, PSP games, and PSX games to its advantage.

  • No, it's nothing like what Apple's been doing.

Apple has been losing in court about everyone needs to give them money anytime anything makes any money on iOS, or even thinking absolutely allowing others to install anything beyond their App Store.

This is Google demanding every app that can be installed on Android must be signed by them, and the only cost is registering with them your name and address, possibly verified by government ID. (And quite possible doxxing you at the same time as they already do on the Play Store....)

These are very different, and unlike Apple, will more likely be applauded by numerous world governments in the current "anything a child can even remotely even know about" must have its users be checked to make sure they are "allowed to".

  • How many basic users do you think build their own desktops and not just buy a pre built?

This was about how many normal people buy Windows, not how many of a very small percentage/niche buy Windows. Please don't move the goal post mid-game.

  • By this logic then Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas should also be a Disney princess since Touchstone Pictures was wholly owned by Disney.

    All hail Disney Princess Sally!

  • Me explaining what "Insert Disk 2 of 5" means.

  • Your link doesn't mention anything about mail in voting. But I did look further into it, and it seems that they don't allow mail in ballots. My mistake.

  • THE PHILES

  • What if we could give each citizen a crypto-signed coin at citizenship registry through citizenship tests or birth, it was required to be destroyed at death, and kept in line with an accurate population census?

Let me see if I understand this, it sounds like you want to make the crypto version of a Social Security number, but also in physical form (a coin).

The issues here is what happens when it's lost? They would have to invalid the lost one (or be stuck with the Social Security angle that can't be changed, but with a "trusted token" in the wild as well), but that means changing numbers and that would go against the whole crypto angle. And then it would be used as a form of ID (Social Security wasn't ever meant to be used as ID, but like your suggestion, it is "unique" and issued at birth/citizenship). We already have enough problems with Social Security numbers being used for fraud, this would only make the matter worse I feel. (Again, as a "more trustworthy item due to crypto" public belief.)

As for population census, this wouldn't help much because if people leave the country, then they aren't part of the census count. But people don't revoke their citizenship when they leave or even make a form letter to their government that they are going to be living more than 6 months out of the year in another country (the usual standard to be considered if you live in the country or not).

  • You know where mail in voting is allowed? Russia.

  • Just because it's not something you'd use anymore doesn't mean it isn't valid.

WEP is still a valid form of wireless encryption, but no one would use it anymore (and so would be obsolete). It's still a part of the 802.11 standard.
