The ancien regime had to go. That is not what I am talking about. Thing is the first chance the libs got they offed the organizers and socialists. Heck they even offed the libs the that went too far and for instance suggested women should be allowed to vote. And the reign of terror was mostly an intern thing where they killed each other in turn. In the end the upper echelons of french society was so disorganised the state hardly worked at all, resulting in all the fuck ups leading both to reinstating monarchy, Napoleon, reinstating monarchy (again) and Napoleon (again). And then finally the republic. The only good thing about the story is like in Andor the heroes didn't have to suffer the humiliation of seeing what had become of their sacrifice. Don't get me wrong, the republic is obviously a better system to be ruled under than the Ancien Regime. It is still a failed revolution.
I see some lessons here. 1. General strikes are the key, because we need to maintain control. 2. It ain't over untill it's over and 3. whatever you do in your life never trust a liberal.
I'm one of those leftists. Or rather socialists if we are going to get theoretical about it.
I am here to tell you that you are wrong. Socialists and liberals even share values. Where we break is not on indiviual morality. It is on principles of universial equality. But most importantly socialists see structural causes for inequality. And collective action as the only way out of it.
While worldview have a tendency to govern individual action, so does socio-economic situation and background and a lot of lesser factors.
Ideology or even organisation doesn't make individuals act less shitty, hopefully esducation does.
I get that now. I guess it just tire me seeing people who should be allies and friends being blind sided. I am tired of trying to explain a different perspective to friend and family, let alone strangers on the net. I mean words are wind. And yet here we are. I guess I am just ranting now. No no, they have to look at those feed of children peeing -in detail- to protect them against pervs.
One thing I love about Lemmy is this: Every time my home countries politicians do something stupid someone on Lemmy post something US politicians have done in the same field, only dumber and more extreme. My country wants age control to protect the children. -> US put up cameras on children's toilets to protect children. etc.
And it actually helps. I just have to look at my feed and I thank our lord and savior that I am not living in the US.
Don't be fooled by the party names. You have to look at the policies and consequences. Danes like to feel progressive, have left leaning stuff like free education and totalitarian measures against stuff they fear. The social democratic party remained in power after Germany moved troops into Denmark in 1940. It should tell you a lot.
