  • That's smart! Take advantage of the fact that cable keeps getting more and more expensive and urge them to cancel it. No need to sneak and block Fox News this way.

  • The first term wasn't fine. Some of Trump's "accomplishments" include raising the national debt significantly despite being part of a party that constantly claims they will deal with it, and poor actions which results in many deaths in the US during the pandemic. He also had secret conversations with Putin and may have transferred our secrets to Russia. Also he told the big lie and supported storming the capitol during J6.

Here's a non inclusive list of some the scandals during Trump's first term: https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/antisemitism-alphabetical-guide-trump-s-worst-moments-n1245795

The only reason his first term wasn't even worse was because people stopped him. Now there are going to be less people to stop him. That's why we must stay strong and vigilant and work towards getting as many Democrats elected locally in 2025 and nationally in 2026.

  • I totally get what you mean. If we can educate people it would be more powerful than just blocking it. But for some people maybe it's hard to educate them. It's for sure a complex issue.

  • This is fascinating to me because it might be evidence that China is promoting right wing content to undermine America. I've never used WeChat before but I know the app has a "news" feature. Is WeChat linking to external domains/IP addresses? I'm curious what kind of right wing propaganda are they seeing? Who is making it? Is it in English or Chinese or a combination?

If you cannot deal with the problem by network filtering and blocking these strategies might be helpful: https://old.reddit.com/r/QAnonCasualties/wiki/index/good_posts

Also I will mention with other social media websites I've read about people using the not interested in this content (or similar wording) button and unfollowing right wing news sources and then following people who make positive content.

  • Nothing wrong with doing both. I fully support using a Pi-Hole to block right wing misinformation/disinformation if the situation is appropriate.

I should also mention in reality this is just a shitpost. In real life there is more nuance to these decisions. I have read stories about people who's parents have been basically "gone" because of Fox News and other right wing disinformation sources and after blocking it they get their parents back usually within 6 months to a year. But it could also result in back lash. It all depends on the situation. I do feel strongly that Fox News should be blocked in hospitals and nursing homes (especially memory units) because it stresses out the patients and some of the content they run is directly contrary to a hospital's mission.

  • Governments should not be using Twitter. They should all move to Bluesky and Mastodon. If you still have a Twitter account please only use it to encourage people to migrate to other platforms. Don't use it for anything else.

  • Do not despair. Nothing in politics is permanent. It may be difficult but we can solve this together. Be sure to read this article to the end where it has the calls to action. Those are all good ideas. In addition I want to mention:

One thing everyone should do is vote in every election, even local elections.

Also specifically for when it mentions public funding try calling your representative and asking for this. It does matter.

In addition also work to defund right wing propaganda by calling advertisers and urge them to stop advertising on Fox and other right wing stations. Also if you have a TV subscription make sure the package doesn't include Fox News. If it's impossible to remove Fox News call the company and ask for a no Fox option. If enough people call they may one day offer it. This step is important because Fox News gets most of its money from carriage fees.

In addition boycott Twitter/X and also Meta (Facebook/Instagram/Threads) and switch to Mastodon and Bluesky. Make sure your friends do the same.

  • I think public funding with independent editorial control is the way to go. It's not perfect by any means but it's the best we have.

  • Of course! That's fine with me!

  • I used the GIMP's hue and saturation tool to change the colors. It looked pretty good but if I had the image as a PNG or SVG the quality would be better. Here's what I got: https://files.catbox.moe/cri8bz.png

  • Wow! Thank you so much for making that! I got the image from Wikipedia. It's even worse than I thought. I think the article on Wikipedia should be updated.

  • I'm a little embarrassed to admit it but at one point I was somewhat of a climate change denier and also a Trump supporter. There's a very well funded coordinated effort to get people to not take climate change seriously. That combined with doing whatever your "tribe" does is how I got sucked in to climate change denialism. I'm so glad I'm out of that. It's why I'm now so passionate about these topics, I don't want other people to suffer the way I did. When I say suffer let me tell you being a conservative isn't a good life. You're constantly fed the latest thing to hate and be outraged at along with talking points to repeat nearly verbatim. Now instead of hate I have love and want to make the world better. It really feels so much better.

The reason I'm saying this is in hopes of giving you perspective on how someone might deny climate change despite noticing the climate is different now than in one's childhood. Even when I was a Trump supporter I remember thinking the weather does seem different but I never made the connection.

  • The whole point is that not enough people are voting. Look at how many people stayed home in the most recent US election.

What I'm trying to say if people wanted to make a big impact on climate change they should organize and rally around people who want to stop climate change.

  • Were you trying to respond to someone else? I see you quoted someone and what you wrote feels like a reply to something someone else said. If you're responding to the picture it doesn't mention Trump or anyone else. I just saw it and thought it was funny so I posted it here.

As far as what you said I agree with you especially because I was a former Trump supporter. People got angry at me (for good reason) when I supported him. What they did didn't help me leave, what did help me leave is seeing other supporters becoming even more crazy and violent, Trump's mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic and J6.

  • I got one word for you: Vote.

Corporations like BP push individual responsibility and personal carbon footprint[1] to try to neutralize you from achieving real policy gains which would have a much greater impact than your individual action. Time spent trying to convince people to vote for politicians who take climate change seriously is far more productive than time spent trying to educate people about their so-called carbon footprint. Of course we all play a part but seeing this chart it's clear we need more action and that's why I'm saying this.

  • Exactly! Twitter cost $44 billion but his wealth doubled from $200 billion to $400 billion after becoming President of the United States along with co-president Trump.

  • Say it louder so people in the back can hear it! This is very true, if Democrats did better in elections they would be able to accomplish more of their goals.
