  • Am I mistaken, or would it make Reddit load slightly faster and use less resources? I might just give it a go.

  • Got it downloaded, will test. The swipes feature might just be perfect, since I don't like the delayed popup on HK (but it must have some delay, or else mistakes happen).

Edit: after some testing, this keyboard seems really nice. A few things are in odd places, but nothing too extreme.

  • Oh, okay. I was looking at sites that list numerous channels and couldn't find any proper .pls links.

  • I'll check it out. Hacker's Keyboard is great, but seems a bit cluttered at times, and doesn't have a light mode so it tends to aggravate my astigmatisms.

  • the envoys of Group of Seven nations, except for Japan, and the European Union said that if Israel was excluded from the invited countries, it would be difficult to send high-ranking officials to attend the ceremony.

Difficult != impossible. It's like they think they can't simply make a good choice. That kind of thinking keeps us in perpetual conflict.

This country (the US) is messed up. Watching the events in Gaza since last October only solidifies my opinion.

Before Biden got Covid this last time, I sent a message to the White House about the Israel/Gaza conflict. I was pefectly reasonable. Just this morning I finally got a reply. They mentioned the 1300 dead in Israel on Oct 7th, but no mention of the countless dead in Gaza since then. They talked about Hamas in the context of terrorism, but not the IDF. They talked about doing this or that to help Palestinians, but I know it's all bullshit. I guess I was hoping my letter might actually reach people who matter, and possibly ignite a spark of conscience behind their dead eyes, but it seems there is no stopping the machine of death.

One of these days this country will have its own Hiroshima/Nagasaki moment, and I wonder: how many - if any - will watch the fall of the US without some measure of relief?

  • Thanks. This might be helpful if there's something RadioDroid can't find,or for someone who only wants to use VLC. Where do you find your .pls links, btw?

  • What? That's... that would have saved me the trouble of discovering turd after turd at the play store. I am glad I found RadioDroid but sheesh, the fact that I already had the answer is too funny.

  • Just curious but how does disabling javascript on Reddit change the experience? Iir, diaabling it can break certain websites.

  • On Android I'm using Old Reddit Redirect. (I imagine just changing the URL is simpler, besides I'm not there enough to desire tons of features... I don't even have a Reddit acct. currently.)

On PC I just use old reddit boolmarks, and a bookmarklet that toggles to old Reddit :D

  • For Firefox:

    UBlock Origin, of course.

And that extension that turns all Reddit pages into old Reddit pages. (I hate the redesign with a passion.)

  • These are all free without ads:

    VLC for movies and music.

Simple Text Editor, which is a lightweight and easy to use text editor. You can configure it to save on exit and open the last file.

    ReadEra PDF reader.

RadioDroid is a free and open source internet radio player. Search for stations and genres around the world. It's waaay better than any of the other things on the Play Store.

Shader Editor if you like programming GLSL fragment shaders.

Krita for digital painting on a tablet.

Autodesk Sketchbook for digital painting on a phone or tablet. It has a paid tier, but the free version is great on its own.

Open Camera, open source camera software. It lets you overcome the limitations of the default app. I like using it when I want a more analog look (I disabled image noise reduction in app).

Manual Camera is a good camera app if you want total control over certain thing like focus, white level, etc.

Hacker's Keyboard. It's got freakin arrow keys. Plus easy access to common characters needed for programming.

    And last but not least

F-Droid, which is like a play store for free and open source software (FOSS). Lots of things there.

  • The worst part to me is the shadowbanning. It's easy enough to tell if you're shadowbanned (check subs or comment threads when signed out and in private mode to see if your stuff shows up), but you can't see comments from other people who are shadowbanned. I want to see all points of view. And after the API changes, the sites for viewing removed or hidden comments stopped working :|

  • Solatubes, lots of them. It would work, but your roof would raise some eyebrows.

  • I'm not buying much, if any, of this story. The FBI has been known to groom potential 'terrorists', catch them before they can act, and then toot their own horns for a job well done. And by groom, I mean nudging unstable people towards extremism and providing them weapons, vehicles, dates, etc. to carry out an attack.

Knowing that the FBI does the things I mentioned also leads to a disturbing question: how many successful mass attacks in the US were the result of FBI involvement? Is it a nonzero number?

  • I'm not sure anything short of a large, sympathetic militia and/or military intervention was going to help, since the farmers had armed men.

That said, who else but cops would be using rubber bullets? Seems suspicious... maybe the cops didn't just fail to stop the farmers after all.

Just trying to look at the thing from every angle.

  • I'm probably blind, but I can't find where the police were at fault this time. It said the cops failed to stop the farmers... maybe it's similar to the Israeli military/settler dynamic?

  • Can't add railing to every steep area. Jk, of course we can, we've got the resources :D

It's a sad story though, how he let go once he knew he was risking his wife's life by continuing to hold onto her. That final look of goodbye which probably took place, and the letting go.

  • If your bladder is ready but you're having trouble going, try running the faucet or imagine a waterfall.

  • Thanks for the detailed info. It would be awesome if the CEOs and shareholders took a pay hit, so they could keep work here and pay them more to boot. (I haven't run any numbers to see if it would even make a big enough difference.)

I didn't know the CHIPS act was having trouble. Last new I heard was that US workers supposedly didn't have sufficient work ethic, or something. Iirc, it sounded like they didn't want to be worked to death...
