  • Well, it gives you complete control over your research and avoids relying on a service that could change it's experience at any time. It would also allow each university to host their own which might be politically easier to justify than "we use server xyz from uni zyx"

  • Big W for Vietnam!

  • Sry that I piggyback: Is there no federated paper publishing thingy?

  • I am not sure whether we need a peeing contest who did/is doing worse. The immense suffering endured by individuals are uncomparable imho.

That being said, I recommend everyone to read "The Banality of Evil" by Hannah Arendt and to review the social experiments that were conducted to understand how average Germans were able to commit genocide. The dark truth is: you are likely able, too.

We are all responsible to prevent this.

  • How does this solve "No one wants to pay for it"? It's just you paying to host instead of paying a guy to host it for you.

  • PeerTube grows terribly because videos are larger than posts and no one wants to pay for it.

Platforms like YouTube and Twitch tell you: "We host for free and you might earn serious buck!" Peertube tells you "Find an instance willing to host your collection and better pay them, too". Go figure.

Solving this issue is not trivial, but some solution is necessary if you want to make it more appealing for high quality creators. Currently, I cannot enjoy using PeerTube as I rarely can open it up and find an interesting video in seconds like I can with YouTube.

  • My post is not a classical bingo - not a race to bingo first. Bingo is just the template that holds the predictions. I agree in general though.

  • I am not Taiwanese, but I have the same hope. However, if Trump gets away with Venezuela and Putin with Ukrain, I see no reason why China would not follow through with their threats. Luckily, I think Taiwan more ready to fight back than Venezuela.

  • HL3? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time...

  • After this I don't think Trump will accept loosing the house. I think we will see him trying to become a dictator shell this year. Hell... US citizens, this might be your last chance.

  • Northrhine Westphalia here: I am no expert. My opinion I) Our birthtate is too low. We need people paying into the Rentenkasse (retirement funds) to carry us. II) Skilled immigrants aside we also need immigrants to do jobs most Germans don't like III) New immigrants commit more crimes; while this is definitely true (relatively 3 times as much for certain crimes), I have yet to see a detailed enough statistic. The issue is that there are gangs traveling from country to country worsening the numbers for all regular immigrants. IV) Immigrants definitely make living more diverse. Especially citys that have more long term immigrants are more diverse. At least in the citys I have been, I didn't notice the UK problem of separate cultures. They felt integrated.

Conclusion: Immigrants are not an issue. However, detailed statistics are necessary to evaluate immigrant crimes. I suspect that locking down on criminal gangs is important. Anyway, as an average German citizen you have no issues with crimes whatsoever as they are quite rare.

What do you like to do?

I like bouldering, visiting castles, museums and such.

What do you have in your town?

Can't tell you what exactly but the largest museum of it's kind.

    Berlin or Munich?

Neither. If you visit big citys, you are not visiting another country, but another shade of grey. Of those two, I would pick Munich however.

  • yea that was too easy. I predicted China making a move on Taiwan as a response to that because USA has no argument anymore.

  • absolutely fair. I don't know that much about France tbh and from my little research I had only trivial predictions. I wanted something a bit more risky. We will see how it goes :)

  • Tbh. I thought about adding a war for turkey (to distract), but I don't know enough to make an informed guess.

  • I know, I know. A risky one. They are taking a lot of debt to please people in 2026 so I took a bet.

  • Waiting for 2027 and then evaluating was the plan. I don't see that as a problem. It's not a real bingo chart so I don't have to finish fast.

  • I would have called bs, but you used LaTeX so it must be true.

  • In German there is nothing established. The most common one I have heard which is still unknown by most is "en/en" (not sure if written correctly).
