  • OK.

  • Comments like this make .me angry even though I know you can't actually make it happen

  • the victim is not pressing charges because she is afraid of MAGAfash

Does she say this or are we making it up?

Seems like she's not making a big deal out of it because she's in the army and someone shoving her a bit while rude isn't a big issue in her day?

  • Not American, I thought national guard and army are different because the national guard do stuff like security at disaster sites and riots which the army aren't allowed to?

  • Oh nuclear got more expensive yet again and is even more of an economic disaster compared to renewables? I'm sure everyone is shocked.

But rich people can monopolize the nuclear power stations so we don't have to fear regular people with power generation on their roof will be somewhat more self sufficient and less prone to the rich people spiking prices just to fuck them over.

  • More idiots racing around footpaths barely in control but thinking they're invincible is the last thing we need

  • It's OK I put my hands down to catch myself, broken wrist / collar bone can't be that that bad....

  • They want to be more affluent than surrounding towns and monopolise beauty spots, entertainments, and culture but they don't want to share - I mean yeah of course rbey want that but surely they understand no one else will support them in it?

Move to somewhere not as touristy, oh you don't want to because you like the stuff that is a draw to other people too? Crying shame.

  • Dvd is 480p so let's not cry about only getting over twice the pixels through a stream, dvd also has jank compression compared to most streaming codex.

And I don't pirate, I just watch higher quality content that isn't proprietary by focusing on small creators especially those making under copy left licensing or cc0 like Jago Hazard

Why would I care what a billion or trillion dollar corporation wants to brainwash me with? You're never going to see honest opinions in a Marvel movie or accurate social commentary, how many times do I need a film with the moral message 'rich people are good actually'

  • OK well in that case I commend you, though to be really good maybe you should download them to a drive after purchase and then you can donate the dvds for someone else or a community center.

  • Yeah, I'd sort my life out then spend a load hiring people to work on useful things simply because I want them to exist, open source and creative commons things that exist for everyone.

It'd give me a sense of purpose and something to focus on, mostly things that should exist already like a really good and efficient small washing machine that can be made by any small fabrication company, easily repairable and upgradable so it's cheaper for people living in apartments than using overpriced coin op machines landlords often install in utility rooms.

There are so many ways of making actual positive differences in the world, if people with excess time and money worked on projects like this then everyone could live little better, meaning more people would be able to work on things and life would be better for everyone which would mean that people are less desperate and struggling so places would be safer and nicer which would mean there's more nice places to visit and people are happier so doing more interesting and fun things which means no one would need so much money to enjoy life in a way even billionaires can't afford now.

The good thing is we don't really need rich people because the workers always do all the actual work so by working together as a people we can donthings like create vast networks of informative videos helping each other fix our cars - an example which has already happened and greatly benefitted many people I know and myself.

The weird guy making videos of how to change spark plugs on am obscure old car and getting 40 views is doing far more towards making a better world than then greedy asshole that makes proprietary and subscription based exercise bikes no matter how much money he manages to hoard for himself.

  • People still repeating this is a real proof no amount of facts or access to information matters if the lie is a fun one that fits your existing biases

  • Yeah it's funny to watch, these are companies full of literally the best educated and most dedicated people using the most upto date tools and are regulated by incredibly serious and well organized bodies.

Yet everything they do is terrible and broken because they're owned by Elon, a man I'm repeatedly told is a feckless layabout who does nothing but run his yap on Twitter...

The reality is people are experiencing reality like reality TV, they know Elon as a personality and they dislike his personality and since there's only a cast of about half a dozen characters he's the bad guy and as marvel movies teach us bad guys are ontological evil and everything they're involved in is awful...

Reality is the other CEOs are often weird too, the general population of workers is full of weird people - many with totally trash opinions... yes it sucks that distasteful people are involved in good things or people with some bad opinions also have some good opinions or agree with sensible ideas but that is how reality works. When people act like anything Elon is involved in can only be bad it just makes it clear they don't live in reality, they live in ideology.

  • Yeah you have intelligence in the scientific definition but I certainly wouldn't use the word colloquially to describe you...

  • You're objectively wrong and I've clearly demonstrated that so you're calling me ai? Ok buddy, continue looking stupid then I guess

  • The reality is you're rejecting all the evidence against this because it would make your worldview much more difficult, you believe you know the truth and so reject any other argument out of hand. This is very common, Alex Jones fans believe they have evidence of a NWO conspiracy, your belief is more reasonable because it's pushed by western media snd political establishments but it's pretty much the same game.

Do you reject the evidence from multiple sources that lizard people rule the world? Of course you reject it because claims of evidence no matter how repeatedly they're made add up tnothing if they're all just feeding off their own fantasy.

Is china heavy handed? Yes. Do I think s lot of their actions in Xinjiang are immoral? Yes. Is there evidence of a genocide, no.

How far have you actually looked into the evidence beyond articles in outlets you wouldn't trust taking about issues you actually have detailed knowledge of? The guardian has misrepresented every antiestablishment group they report on but you think they'll be fair to the CCCP? And they're one of fhe most sympathetic, in what world would the US state department say 'actually our main enemy isn't as bad as people say, really they're fairly reasonable especially xomaoired to our own interactions with Islamic terrorists...'

But it's also why they don't really talk about it, they don't want to get caught in lies - remember the US flexing on Russia with their super accurate intel? They'd love to do that to china and if there was good evidence to have they'd have it. This is why all the big claims are based on hearsay from unreliable sources or wild leaps of imagination based on insignificant pictures.

You're sure there's huge amounts of evidence but you can't think of a single bit that has any substance - exactly like the conspiracy loons when they say 'Google FEMA Cano death squads' instead of pointing to their favorite smoking gun because they know you'll just get lost in a sea of people promising theirs strong evidence but never actually getting round to showing it.

As for people using the same demographic argument for Isreal, Isreal isn't building schools and providing healthcare the difference is pretty obvious when you actually compare them - but that doesn't occur to you because you don't actually know any details about the situation in China, which is weird considering how often you've read articles and memes taking about it... almost like they lack vital information because they only want to show one side....

  • Ha no I'm not an iPhone user but regardless a phone is useful as it allows me to live more efficiently - not traveling to have every important conversation saves resources on its own and there's thousands of other practical uses -- wasting resources needlessly just to be a hipster is totally different.

I just find it funny that lemmy on one hand clmaours to cheer on terrorism in the name of the climate and all that stuff but simultaneous gets super mad any time anyone suggests the slightest lifestyle change for the sake of the environment - even if it's objectively better.

DVD is a digital format so if you want to watch it in that lowered quality then you can download it in that codec and get literally exactly the same experience - but no, you need an entire wastful industry making short lived plastic disks just to make you feel superior to everyone using the objectively better technology.

Let the DVD factories close, stop making chemical coated plastic needlessly and grow up.

  • Again you're confused, it's the same difficulty people have with the word 'fruit' because in botany we use it very specifically but colloquially it means a sweet tasting enable bit of a plant regardless of what role it plays in reproduction. Colloquially you'd be correct to say that corn grain is not fruit but scientifically you'd be very wrong. Ever eaten an Almond and said 'what a tasty fruit?' probably not unless your a droll biology teacher making a point to your class.

Likewise in biology no one expects a slug or worms or similar to analyze and solve problems but if you look up scientific papers about slug intelligence you'll find plenty, though a lot will also be about simulating their intelligence using various coding methods because that's a popular phd thesis recently - computer science and biology merge in such interesting ways.

The term AI is a scientific term used in computer science and derives its terminology from definitions used in the science of biology.

What you're thinking of is when your mate down the pub says 'yeah he's really intelligent, went to Yale and stuff'

They are different languages, the words mean different things and yes that's confusing when terms normally only used in textbooks and academic papers get used by your mates in the pub but you can probably understand that almonds are fruit, peanuts are legumes but both will likely be found in a bag of mixed nuts - and there probably won't be a strawberry in with them unless it was mixed by the pedantic biology teacher we met before...

Language is complex, AI is a scientific term not your friend at the bar telling you about his kid that's getting good grades.

  • Your three bits of evidence are all heresy based on unreliable reports, but sure let's just believe anything that fits our worldview without question.

Even Mahmoud Abbas said china was treating Muslims fairly, as did Imran Khan as leader of Pakistan, Kazakhstan likewise agrees with China's actions as do many other Islamic neighbour's... People who get their news from the source because they're connected to the victims involved through shared culture describe it as a fairly standardly upsetting conflict between terrorists and state actors but the further away you get and the closer to the anglosphere the more intense people's stories become...

I only really realized how much the media pushes stories with no basis because I wanted to be able to demonstrate the stark facts when talking about it, it's been the main criticism of Americans biggest enemy for decades but the CIA, media, and all the other apparatus of the machine haven't been able to find anything beyond a few pictures of routine prisoner transport and baseless accusations from people already ideologically opposed to the state - I'm not even joking when I say Alex Jones has better evidence that FEMA and the EPA are building concentration camps and using chemical warfare against patriots, which we all understand to be manipulative lies.

For decades we've been hearing about this industrial genocide of Uyghur but their population continues to grow, average life expectancy has increased due to access ro modern medicine, everyone (including women, much to the upset of religious fundamentalists) now have access to education and social support... yes the men who wanted to keep women as property are angry but the average Uyghur lives a better life now than they did twenty years ago so if that's the definition of genocide it's kinda meaningless.

  • I use it for fun, frivolity, and beauty.
