  • Apple would need to supply the data if they had the encryption key right? So can we assume that even Apple cannot see the encrypted data?

  • I am used to rejecting the cookies if they are not automatically blocked by Vivaldi or Firefox, but on my phone I use Safari, which still has a decent add blocker by default so most of the time it is just a cookie banner where I have to reject them. Or put the site in reader mode

  • Honestly, setting up things using Docker Compose is generally a question of copying and pasting and editing the file locations.

The moment you need SSL and/or a reverse proxy it becomes a bit more complex, but once you set up a reverse proxy once you can generally expand that to your other applications.

Something like a Synology nas makes it very easy and to some extend even the Truenas apps are kinda easy.

  • Amazon is crap, so my only two real options where an NVIDIA shield or an Apple TV and since we are an Apple household I went with the Apple TV, which doesn't support it.

  • I agree with you, my main issue with Matrix is that it is a pain to self-host at the moment.

  • Sadly I don't believe I can use SmartTube. I was really limited in options for my TV box due to regional reasons and Googling blocking way more surrounding casting than Apple with airplay

  • There is nothing like a free lunch.

You either have to directly pay for something or indirectly pay for it by selling your time or data.

Companies need to get their name out there and in the past you did that with a banner on your building, a space in the phone book and maybe your name on the side of the vans. Now we live in the digital world and we use digital advertisement. Heck a lot of companies sponsor certain event including charity events.

If we would totally remove advertisement, your local mom-and-pop shops will get more traffic, but in a lot of countries they would have basically a monopoly unless another competitor exists in the same region.

I don't really mind watching a bit of advertisement on something like a YouTube video or a banner ad on a site. Heck, buildings or vans with logos etc are fine as well in my opinion. My issue is more with the tracking and some forced advertisement (putting your logo on my clothing, vehicle etc).

  • I don't mind the old system of one or two ads on a page or a 10-second ad at the start of a YouTube video if they don't track their users. But these days it is growing out of proportions, we are almost at American television with the amount of ad breaks in a YouTube video, and it's absurd.

  • Businesses in North America also refuse to comply with the EU rules surrounding the display of prices including VAT and unfairly compete with companies in the EU. A consumer cannot know if a company has to pay VAT in the EU or not.

  • OnlyOffice is worse (and not because of the security breach implications), but because it misses the Ctrl+D shortcut (copies the cell above to the current cell). Which is something I use A LOT for data entry.

  • I switched to mint like a month before PewDiePie lol

My main issue is that I kinda need actual Excel every so often because I require things like power query. I tried installing it using Wine, but it needs to authenticate with Microsofts servers, even the older versions.

  • Ow right .. hard to see sometimes

  • 6 whole litres?! How are you not dead yet?

  • The drive from France to the nearest German motorway without a speed limit isn't that far, though.

You can also do track days and such, but I agree with you they don't need to be that quick

  • The issue here in NL is with the power grid, not the price of the panels. The installing of them is already one of the most expensive parts of getting panels since you need to build scafolding for most houses.

  • Some of Seagate's drives have terrible scores on things like Blackblaze. They are probably the worst brand, but also generally the cheapest.

I have been running a raid of old Seagate barracuda's for years at things point, including a lot of boot cycles and me forcing the system off because Truenas has issues or whatnot and for some fucking reason they won't die.

I have had a WD green SSD that I use for Truenas boot die, I had some WD external drive have its controller die (the drive inside still work) and I had some crappy WD mismatched drives in a raid 0 for my Linux ISO's and those failed as well.

Whenever the Seagate start to die, I guess ill be replacing them with Toshiba's unless somebody has another suggestion.

  • BYD?

  • Its already law that the director/cea etc should earn at least 56k or the same aa the most earning employee.

But if companies wheren’t allowed to exist your job wouldn’t and the internet won’t exist, etc
