  • You could make it more woke by replacing Kevin Sorbo with an actual human being, but that only affects the crossovers.

  • Bioweapons backfire, guns and explosives don't have plausible deniability in Europe, umbrellas are only inconspicuous on rainy days, cars are conveniently ubiquitous murder weapons, which is why they are becoming the smart terrorist's weapon of choice in Europe.

  • The protection is usually framed under the natural right to be safe at home, it has nothing to do with legal entitlements. i.e. someone considering a dwelling home makes it safe, not an arbitrary paper.

  • Naja 😔

  • The problem is that Berlin is a Land, so it doesn't count as "local" for elections. For the same reason EU-citizens can't vote for the Abgeordnetenhaus (city assembly) of Berlin, only for the Bezirke.

  • Schumer already did a kind of shy endorsement of Mamdani, after that the others politicians don't have much room to stab the party in the back. The problem here are the donors; oligarchs are pissed.

My current bet would be that Cuomo will leave his name in the ballot out of spite but not really campaign, and lots of right wing Democrats will stay silent, while the oligarchs will try to resurrect Adams' political career by throwing money at it (may all their donations burn into a pile of useless ash)

  • Even if was an actual prince they would probably use him an expiatory goat to show the royal family takes the law seriously, which is particularly critical with Märtha Louise's shenanigans already staining their reputation. Him being just the prince's step-son just makes it a no-brainer.

  • I am not an expert, but what I remember from the news with a little refresher from wikipedia, the main issue is that dispute settlement mechanism is broken for two reasons:

    • National security concerns were allowed as an opaque excuse to break the rules
    • Trump and Biden blocked appointments to the bodies that are responsible for enforcing the rules, so there's no one even trying to enforce the rules inside of the WTO for 6 years now. The EU and some other members have an ad-hoc mechanism to settle disputes, but it's not recognized by the US.

But the underlying problem is that US wants rules that apply to others but not them, and nothing short of the Yellowstone finally going off will change it in the short term.

  • The CDU and SPD see cars as sacrosanct, and Germans living in the outskirts are not only world-class car brains but are literally the source of the car problem for central Berlin while not suffering from 90% of the consequences.

If everyone in the city got a vote I would say there was a chance, but since it's going to be the Germans only, I don't see it happening.

  • Why do half of their accusations sound like confessions and the other half like their fetishes?

  • It depends. Norway avoids sending people to jail willy nilly but it also has provisions to remove dangerous people from society if needed. And the court will probably be under pressure not go easy on him in order to not create even more resentment towards the royal family.

  • You are thinking about dignity and imagining a British aristocrat drinking tea from a fine porcelain cup with the pinky held up while plotting world domination. That's the vernacular meaning of dignity.

In the context of human rights, dignity is the natural right of every single person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically.

You don't infringe it by saying that your government is being managed by incompetent or immoral people. You infringe it when you say women belong in the kitchen and not in the office, or that black people are naturally inferior to white people, or that gay people don't have right to love who they love, etc.

  • Ew! People that are these bad at taking care of their balls should be parted from them.

  • (assuming it's really a male duck)

  • Every one else becomes a hero. Even Frieza was well on his way to anti-hero.

  • As a potential independent candidate Cuomo didn't poll that bad if you don't consider that:

    • the 39% he got are the same as Mamdani, so it would be 50/50 at best
    • as a known quantity, this 39% are probably his ceiling
    • it still didn't factor Schumer effectively endorsing Mamdani on social media

Political players are in still in flux, but, for the right wing of the Democratic Party, moving against Mamdani is getting riskier and riskier by the day. Not only would they lose the "unity" argument to mobilize the left close to the midterms, but the risk of suffering an humiliating defeat is too great.

  • The same way your right to wave your hands ends before they reach other people's faces, free speech can't include speech infringing on other people's dignity (in the legal/philosophical sense).

Regulating speech within this frame is as bad as stopping a bar fight by dragging the instigator away.

  • Exactly, the 13 colonies were assigned British at birth. This delusion went far enough already.
