About preventing crime, the short version is that it starts in the home.

Much violent crime can be traced back to cultural factors. Violent crime, such as murder, would probably decrease dramatically in an anarchist society because most of its causes — poverty, televised glorification of violence, prisons and police, warfare, sexism, and the normalization of individualistic and anti-social behaviors — would disappear or decrease.

The differences between two Zapotec communities illustrates that peace is a choice. The Zapotec are a sedentary agrarian indigenous nation living on land that is now claimed by the state of Mexico. One Zapotec community, La Paz, has a yearly homicide rate of 3.4/100,000. A neighboring Zapotec community has the much higher homicide rate of 18.1/100,000. What social attributes go along with the more peaceful way of life? Unlike their more violent neighbors, the La Paz Zapotec do not beat children; accordingly, children see less violence and use less violence in their play. Similarly, wife-beating is rare and not considered acceptable; women are considered equal to men, and enjoy an autonomous economic activity that is important to the life of the community so they are not dependent on men. Regarding child-rearing, the implications of this particular comparison are corroborated by at least one cross-cultural study on socialization, which found that warm, affectionate socialization techniques correlate with low levels of conflict in society.

As for the re-emergence of hierarchies, I think that the notion of anarchism is essentially 'checks and balances' turned up to 11. You get to a society that's an ecosystem of fluid social relationships, and an anti-authoritarian culture which makes it impossible in a million ways for anyone to accumulate power. If we could get there, I think it would be more robust than current liberal democracy, where the branches of government can cooperate and you need buy-in from less people to enable power to be accumulated.

IMO, good anarchist praxis is to 1) encourage and popularize anti-authoritarian parenting methods and 2) build strong community groups and mutual aid networks.

In the now, I believe in Mutualism and Solidarity Economies as a means for preserving liberty and keeping one another safe.

You might find this helpful. There will likely be another this year (fyi Beau took a sabbatical for workaholism and his wife Belle and collaborators are doing an excellent job of carrying it forward)

  • Passing this on:

A uterus is NOT disposable even when you don't want to have kids - it serves a purpose in women's bodily health. If you need to get it removed for health reasons then absolutely do it, but please don't ever think uterus + breasts serve no purpose when you're not having kids. They greatly participate in the hormonal health of the body & brain, in the lymphatic structure, keeping other organs in their place, and it has been now proven by studies that if you do a hysterectomy when young it greatly affects your risk to get alzheimer's/dementia. This is not to say you shouldn't take care of your reproduction or get yourself sterilized if you want. But patriarchy has already commodified every body part of ours; please, let's appreciate our natural bodies and health and not take it for granted. Please do not think your bodyparts are disposable if you are not having kids. That's what men think. Your body parts are valuable and an important part of YOU. They serve YOU and your health, no-one else. You are not a barbie doll that can have parts taken out without consequences. You do not consist of parts, you are a whole person. You are a lovely, important human, and your health and body parts belong to you. I know we are taught to think about ourselves as a collection of body parts and to nit pick them apart, but I want to stress this is a patriarchal way of thinking. Your womb does not suddenly become irrelevant if you're not in relationships with men. It is still hugely important to YOU.💜

So yeah, as usual, why in the world should anyone except the person with the uterus, getting a say in the matter?

  • Didnt downvote but ill bite.

Dont self-hate. There's so many self-proclaimed misogynistic chauvanists to hate.

You offer your humanity. That is unique and not about the gender binary.

Your intrinsic traits mean people are more likely to listen to you.

If you're into a long form video essay, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBn5VF_On2k

You get to be inclusivity batman

If your up for a punk song https://propagandhi.bandcamp.com/track/refusing-to-be-a-man

Gender is made up. A social construct used to divide, for the purpose of economic imperialism. If youre up for a book:

    https://www.publishersweekly.com/9781557100238

Self-love is needed if you're going to uplift others. Your intentions seem to be in the right place. Meet that with humility, humanity and accountabilty to learn and grow from mistakes and you'll do fine.

One more thing that feels relevant, a sentiment from a friend:

I think that a lot of people on the left are focused on the idea of forgiveness coming from the people who were wronged, but I think that's a misguided notion. It's not my place to seek forgiveness from those I have wronged, and I don't have any obligation to forgive those who have wronged me. I think that the harsh reality is that we live in an unjust world, where justice only exists if we fight tooth and nail for it, and will it into existence with our choices and actions.

So then if you believe what you're saying, be a part of the fight to make our grass the greener

  • Ahahahaha thank you.

  • Witness this right wing authoritarian whining about getting ratio'd for spouting Moral-Fear-Propaganda openly dehumanizing one group of people under another, crying about it.

Fascism is a virus all of it's own, a weird evil in a bad way, the only kinds of degenerates with the only kind of kinks society must stop. Their bloodlust is the poison. This White-Supermacist, Eugenicist Cancer asks you to turn your neighbor in and destroys every nation that obliges.

So reader, Solidarity Forever. Ill promise you, you promise me, to never sell each other out to these murderous theives. I'll call you on your shit, please call me on mine. We'll work together, and our grass will be the greener in time. ❤️‍🔥

  • Im sorry that happened to you Or im glad for u Aint readin all that tho

  • Lol talkin shit about based welsh people while being aussie. Ok meight.

  • Yes, which is where Gay Furry Hackers on Estradiol come in.

  • Relevant for me; i nearly changed careers out of tech entirely -- being fed up with the state of the industry -- but found some great folks in worker cooperative spaces. Here's what's kept me optimistic:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UmU1dSe3n0

Plucked a vid off this channel and let it be known the idea of the channel name is to "reject isms/be your own ism"

Solarpunk has replaced, for me, the plasteel+glass greenhouse skyscraper skylines. Afrofuturism offers a much better preconfiguration than anything of capitalist and anglo origins. Importantly, the dismantling of unjust heirarchies.

I never lost the optimism, i just recognized that the root cause of our pain is not going to be addressed by technnlology (new invention) without an equal-or-greater effort into decolonizing and unlearning on the part of those building, using and promoting a given technology.

  • The person you're replying to claiming that, for bigots to have won, the true litmus test is if society hates bigots. How entertaining.

My message to you is keep fighting. You can learn angrily, you can teach angrily, you can be braver.

There's plenty to learn and teach about. Wherever you are there are surely folks in need and folks organizing, and the darker things get the brighter our resistance grows.

Take up with, and get involved with literally ANY human rights advocacy. No, you wont change the world all on your own -- but hyperindividualism is something to unlearn (angrily) all on it's own!

What you're almost certain to do, supposing that you go in with the strength to admit when you're wrong, will be to build connections with kindred spirits.

So here's just a few inspiring causes, for which i both encourage online learning about, but topics for which you never have the true picture until youre involved locally with folks who are already saying, for their humanity "Nothing about us, without us"

    Drug War Survivors: https://www.crackdownpod.com/

    Landback: https://www.indigenousaction.org/

Marooncast: Black and Queer anarchism, ending police (and their) brutality and creating real autonomy for communities of color https://marooncast.buzzsprout.com/

Healthcare: https://www.beatriceadlerbolton.com/ (Has a link to the book and podcast. Other collaborators, and the greater community formed around these, deserve equal attention and credit)

These are a small fraction of what's out there. If you're able bodied and inclined to do so, go link arms in an eviction defense; Stonelink Realty is buying out folks apartments from under them everywhere, and there's no justice, or even any sense, in police throwing someone working two jobs out on the street, just because sillicon valley types are moving into the area.

Be pissed. That is an appropriate emotional response. Know that for many of us, especially those whose intrinsic traits cannot br safely hidden (melanin, queerness, medical or economic condition, ..) that retreat or surrender are not possible.

Since youre still reading: There exist so many anonymous, unofficial rescue workers, engaged offline providing the resources made scarce or forbidden to those forgotten or sacrificed by society. Knowing of them casts a bit of light. Getting closer to that light? Well maybe your experience of community begins to feel a bit less cold. ✨️

  • Heh, foresaw you getting hung up on "liberation"

It's not complicated nor is it this profound thing: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/16007006

It's commisseration, really Can you just let some traumatized autisitic transfems (and others) have that?

No? Yes? Doesnt matter. Thats the point of the video, it's not about you. Thats also part of the point of parody'ing incels (which as an aside: the concept of invcel was originally coined by a woman and was meant to be a supportive, all-gender, friendly place -- before the right co-opted it.

No, i'm posting this for the next tranzqueer who comes along, who might [like I had] be unaware of these things and tend to gravitate to the Narrative of the Johns without reminders that there is so, so much more nuance, and meaning to be found in the world, beyond the limits of what is scripted, shot, edited, produced and published for the target audience composed of Stanleys & Johns.

So thanks for reading. I did not expect you to watch that whole video, but since you did, I hope your life will be enriched by the appreciation that creations, be they AAA titles or shitty memes, dont need to make sense to your perspective in order for them to have great value, both to marginalized audiences who benefit from seeing themselves humanized, but also to the rest, because in order to dehumanize someone else you first demhumanize a tiny part of yourself -- and art can heal that, too.
