  • ... I actually like being able to copy a website and middle clicking to open it. I don't think it's a problem, it just needs to be telegraphed to the user better, and togleable.

  • On coaches, they often aren't unless they have some kinda centralised display system that displays stops.

In local public transport busses, they usually are in my experience.

I think the deciding point is whether the bus has a computerised display/pa system. If the driver has to set it manually through some archaic process, it's bound to be forgotten.

  • Christian conservative with some pretty bad corruption scandals under her belt. She sucks.

  • From experience, the filtering cyclones in the mieles are quite a bit worse than the Dyson.

If you want a good and lasting vacuum, don't buy a cordless one. When looking at corded vacuums, miele is definitely one of the better options.

  • ... sure. Nothing here is wrong, but there's ways to try and mitigate that. And then it's kinda an arms race, and vigilance.

  • Good as a general recommendation.

I also feel like the risk levels are very different. If it's something that performs a function but doesn't save/serve any custom data (e.g. bentopdf), that's a lot easier to decide to do than something complicate like Jellyfin.

I do have public addresses for Matrix, overleaf, AppFlowy, immich because they would be much less useful otherwise. Haven't had any problems yet, but wouldn't necessarily recommend it to others.

I'd never host any stuff with "Linux ISOs" on a public adress, that seems like it'd be looking for trouble.

  • I would argue that it is much less traumatic, but it is still harm being done, and shouldn't be normalised.

If an adult decides to have the procedure done, that's different, but it shouldn't be done to a child that can't consent or grasp the issue.

  • Yes. Strip searches suck. This is about publically sexualising people against their will. That also sucks.

And some people seem to be hell-bent to put much more scrutiny on the person being sexualised than on the person sexualising them.

  • Yeah. From experience, even moderately powerful laptops can run a win11 ltsc iot VM pretty easy, and that runs everything you need that wine can't.

For reference, my current laptop has an 8th gen i5, 32 GB RAM. I use the VM for Lightroom, affinity. Runs perfectly fine with 4 Threads and 16 gigs of RAM.

  • The way the many societies treat nudity is a problem, but that is a wholly separate issue from people getting 'undressed' against their will.

  • The Lemmy devs don't seem to hardcode those opinions into Lemmys source code.

  • You just have to Flash coreboot, I have three chromebooks deployed with family, one with mint and two with Endeavour. Even Touch and audio drivers work for those specific models (Acer Santa and Asus Babytiger).

  • What annoys me with Tuta is that they make PGP encryption very difficult (they don't implement it at all, you have to use external solutions, which is made more difficult because you can't use external clients).

They argue it is less secure than their solution where they send non Tuta users a link and you give them a password. I argue that PGP is something people would use, while their solution isn't.

Proton does implement it, but I also have my gripes with Proton. Both of them feel like they want to build a walled garden / avoid being inter-operable.

  • I seem to remember that steam depends on the official nvidia drivers, so that might still be fumbly if you use their platform.

  • I wouldn't worry about the far-left - there doesn't seem to be a single far-left politician with a platform in the US. I'd be more worried about the mayority of people currently in the legislature being either far-right or enabling said far-right people. Those people will still be there after Trump.

  • I love the UX. Dev has been making a few pretty big mistakes they then fixed (leaving remote debugging on by mistake, mainly). I use it for my own hosted services, and for reading stuff on sites I trust, so I don't see that as a problem for my usecase, but it might be for yours.

  • That's possible. And yes, I think there's no doubt pretty much all parts of the administration are as far from impartial as they can get.

  • I was thinking of the Firewall, and was a bit surprised - seemed outside your normal wheelhouse. This makes a lot more sense, lol.

  • That building looks kinda like a stick of ram from the front.
