  • Nationalities aren't Skyrim races. You don't get special abilities.

"It wasn't until I learned that I was 90% British that it all made sense... my inhuman ability to queue for hours, my fastidiousness surrounding permits, and hatred for the French... I knew I was special, but I never imagined how special."

  • They were for a while in the 1970's through the 90's (I think), but it was in partnership with the American Motors Company. When AMC went bust, Chrysler bought them out and ended the contract.

  • Renault is a good brand, but unfortunately for me and my fellows they're not in the US market. There was talk of them coming back into the market (or was it Peugeot, maybe both?) a few years back but apparently that fell through. I know both Renault and Peugeot have a presence in Mexico but (even before Trump's threatened tariffs go through) importing cars (especially new cars) from outside the US as anyone other than a licensed dealer can be really cost prohibitive.

  • Could you imagine trying to get there to be libraries today if the concept was new? "We can't possibly just let people read for free! What, do you think literacy is a right? It's a privilege!"

  • Not talking down, not trying to demean you, but that's a doom spiral. If you can, go to a therapist. There's tons of resources if you cannot afford it or don't have insurance. Check with your local health service. Chances are good there's low or no-cost options. Life is worth living, you are worth being here, humanity is worth saving.

  • So... zero consideration for the crew. Not a chance they did some malicious actions under duress of say, I don't know, a government's intelligence service? No shot anyone from the FSB or MSS could have been holding someone's family if certain actions weren't taken or failed.

No, we should just immediately kill the people we suspect of doing wrong.

  • Yeah. On my work desktop, our IT people have told us to not use the Outlook program but rather to just go to the website. On my phone, I run it in Vivaldi instead of the app (which is a little jankie, but not as bad as it was running in Chrome or Firefox).

  • Oh my goodness... my job requires me to work with a team on some fairly industry specialized software (steaming and broadcast television); the way my coworkers have their shit set up is so weird. It's like we are all speaking the same language, but with wildly different dialects.

  • That's what happened in his first term (and apparently within his business for years). Trump's management style appears to be: gather sycophants and yes men, orchestrate drama to pit everyone against each other, stay in power due to the instability caused by the infighting. No one considers challenging the king if the court is too chaotic.

  • This happened throughout his first term as well as within the Trump Organization before he sought public office. His management style seems to be one where the boss pits everyone against each other to keep all would-be dethroners at bay. It's not the best way to distribute the keys of power, but it is a good way to keep anyone from challenging the leader even in the slightest.

  • Every time I see stuff like this it makes me slightly glad they got laughed out of the smart phone game. Can you imagine if a Microsoft mobile OS became a serious third between Android and iOS? I mean, those two aren't great by any stretch of the imagination (and are probably doing or planning similar shit), but Microsoft is just going gloves off at this point.

  • Foundationally antisemitic... "let's gather all the Jews into one country, tell them that's where they belong and only where they belong; the only place they could actually be safe. Anyone opposing this is clearly a racist/xenophobic and/or genocidal. Anyone standing in the way of this project must be destroyed, even if (perhaps especially if) they are themselves Jewish."

  • I mean,800k seems low actually... it was up and running for like six or seven years. Maybe the prices were too steep?

  • No problem! I work in television/live streaming production. Finding and buying "dumb" monitors when we build out new sets and presentation spaces is literally part of my job.

  • It is still possible to buy "dumb" TV's. Tons of businesses need them for display purposes (like at fast food restaurants and corporate expos, etc, etc), but you need to search for commercial displays. Like this one.

  • Rich assholes who believe they are smart as a side effect of being rich assholes.

  • The only reason the DNC couldn't get Kissinger for this election is that he couldn't get a weekend pass from hell.

  • Most folks going the full two day journey are in the sleeper cars. The Roomettes are Amtrak's two person sleeper accommodations and they're pretty nice (there are larger accommodations available, but the Roomettes are by far the cheapest and most common). There's also meals included in the sleeper car price and the food on Amtrak is actually not too bad. If you're traveling alone (or in any amount of people less than four) the dining car attendant will seat you with folks you don't know, there's tons to talk about. Lots of people, whether in the sleepers or in coach, bring books and have their tablets or laptops filled up with movies and series. My last trip up to DC I had saved a bunch of podcasts to listen to and finished Dan Simmons "Hyperion" series while I rode.

  • Joe Biden said as much, out loud, several times.
