Located on Deck 6, Room 2054. Mass evacuation site for decks 5-10.

I'm someone's favorite.

  • Imagine if you accidentally hit "reload all"...

  • My anecdote isn't quite the same since it deals with something a lot simpler, and lower stakes than stuff like this.

used to assemble bicycles for a sporting goods chain, and had to travel to a nearby city to build theirs because nobody there knew how. I had two days to get 300 done.

I got there and start, and about two hours in the store manager comes over and tells me he's pulling 2 of their operations employees to help and learn how to build. "they're the strongest guys we have so they should have no problem tossing these bikes around"

I straight up told him I have no time at all to train them on how to build and do the safety inspections correctly, not to mention the fact that I will still have to personally inspect every single one they put together anyway, so if they want to give me help I'll take it but they're on trash duty. Remove all the packaging, put the bike next to my work area, toss the trash. I will build. If there's extra time at the end I will be happy to instruct everyone in the store how it's done. Or even put me on the schedule for next week to do it.

Dude got pissy and wanted me to train people first, so I just called the district manager while he was talking and had him tell the guy to do what I said because I'm here at corporates request and if I don't get the bikes finished in time then "it will look bad on your store's next visit if the bikes are still boxed up"

In the end I got all of them done with about 3 hours to spare, so I spent the rest of the time teaching a couple people how to do it.

  • Wait, people are complaining about manor lords already? So far I like it and haven't come across anything bothersome yet. I haven't played a ton, but I'm getting a good village going.

If anyone thinks hiring 50 people will get them an update in a week, they've never worked on a group project at all, let along a comolicated one. They've been working on it for what, 5 years now? And it's just gotten what is essentially a beta buukd?

These people need to chill out and let a good game slowly unfold, not take a promising start and try to speed run into the trash can.

Luckily the devs are a lot smarter than the average 11 year old.

  • It's insane to me all the different ways the government procures things.

Just get it straight from the manufacturer. Then if anything ever goes wrong there isn't the "who is REALLY to blame on this long chain of people" it's "hey this shit is broken, YOU are responsible for it"

Of course sometimes they do it as a form of opsec, if you distribute parts across many small time sellers it's easier to hide something than one big order from the primary source.

  • Tldr: people are dicks and absolutely will just break shit they know other people like just because they get a little thrill at causing other people to feel bad, or they really do just like breaking things and have no regard for others, history, or significance.

A couple years back there was a big search going on when someone decided to topple a cliffside tree and it fell onto the path below and crushed someone.

Looked it up just now because I never heard any follow up, and not only is it now reported as a "log" (idk if you can call a mostly dead tree a "log" but whatever) and three teenagers were charged.

At a state park near my house, there's an insane amount of huge sandstone boulders deposited by glacial melt, and half buried. Someone knocked an eroded piece away that was kind of like a table that people had a tradition of "you walk up the super steep sideof the mountain/hill, grab a pebble on your way up, and when you get to the top you try to toss it onto the pile that's accumulated over the years"

Now there's just a slowly building pile of palm sized rocks where the sandstone table fell as people started a new tradition.

I fully believe that if the world was introduced to a newly discovered alien species that only exists in one single hole on Mars, and teleportation on the same day, someone would have stuck an explosive in the puddle by the end of the day.

  • The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. We might get there, and we have to start somewhere.

I hope I'm wrong about reading the articles again.

  • The optimist in me is pumped about those stats, but the cynical pedantic asshole in me wants to point out >0≠0

Mostly I was just commenting on the fact that I keep seeing articles every few years about how some country or other has gone back on its promises to cut X by Y percent.

Thanks for sharing the facts, though! My cynical side needs to see stuff like that to keep it at bay.

  • Can't wait to see the articles in 10 years about how major countries are phasing out coal in the next 10-20 years.

    Again.

  • Based on the facts of the case as presented by the cops themselves, not murder and not even attempted murder.

    Defense, plain and simple.

  • When police are involved in an illegal act, they deserve every bit of the same treatment as any other civilian.

If someone breaks down my door in a mask, screaming and pointing guns around, I'm not going to stop and ask if they have badges or a warrant, I'm gonna defend my life, my family, and my property.

If someone is beating my sibling to death, I'm not going to sit back, shrug, and say "well he should have tried cooperating harder, nothing I can do but watch" I'm going to defend my family from attempted murder

  • Well you see, when the people with all the money make the rules, they go out of their way to ensure they never see an inkling of the consequences of their behaviors.

It's not logical, as so many things in modern society aren't when you take a step back and think about the Why's of the way things are. But society at large is beaten down and starved enough to not question it.

"It's just the way things are"

But it's not the way things could be

  • Mold started growing in the crawl space that had to be taken care of but for the most part I think so.

Everything has been heavily documented because with the flooring being what it is, it doesn't like moisture from the underside and if things got humid enough that would drastically reduce the lifespan of the floor.

  • I'm in the US and a few years back we had to replace our septic system.. Did all the usual stuff to contact utility companies to come mark the lines off.

The cable company we had has been bought out twice in my memory, who knows how many times before that. They marked a straight line from certain points around the front of the house.

Well guess who sliced through the cable with the very first excavator chunk out BACK.

The placement made no sense until you consider a tree that had been cut down and stump removed, on the close front side of the house vs the completely clear, easily dug up but farther to go back side. Looks to me like someone didn't want to deal with roots and too the easy way, but didn't change the reported line. I don't know how cable guys usually mark their lines but I thought it was weird he only had a clipboard and some measuring tape instead of like... A metal detector. Idk if the lines can even be picked up with one though.

Another time I noticed water visibly flowing underneath the house from front to back through the foundation bricks. NOT good. At all. Very bad, in fact, to have flowing water under your house.

Thanks to the grass growing extra tall, and the excessive amount of groundwater I was able to track down a leak to a little spurt of water maybe 3 inches high coming from the ground. Called the water company about a busted pipe.

Apparently they had two lines next to each other, one was a replacement and the other was supposed to be bypassed but apparently never got cut off. So when the old line eventually completely broke, it just started pouring water into the hillside which ran down to our house. Three crews working until about 5am. Water spraying a good 15 feet into the air.

So they new where the pipe was, but they didn't really know where the pipe was since their papers said the actual leaky pipe no longer existed.

  • I just want you to know my wife is adamant that this is the correct version.

I'm with the cat, but you should know you aren't alone.

  • While normally I would agree that you should take it all in as-is... It really depends on how many times you've seen it..

SG1 was my jam while it was still running, and I watched it every chance I got from S4 onwards.

When my family didn't have cable, we had the first 5 seasons of SG1 on DVD, and I watched them. A lot.

So I definitely have seen enough of The Broca Divide and Emancipation and will happily skip them my next go around. If I'm showing them to a new person though, it's "you should watch ALL OF THEM"

  • Also a "I don't like you/this page/the content and will go out of my way to systematically down vote everything you have done and everything in this particular thread" button.

  • "the ability is BECAUSE OF one of their self-granted special powers, not the self-granted special power itself"

  • It's bullshit that they're being thanked for table scraps that the children had to slap fight over how many scraps are allowed..

Of course anything other than 100% gratitude would be touted by the shittier child for the rest of their life regardless of whether the scraps ended off starvation or not.

My metaphor got a little weird but what the fuck.

  • Never thought the body of an article would make me stop reading in literally the first two words before and lose all interest in the content, yet here we are...
