In addition to what everyone else has posted, FMLA also has the wonderful caveat of not coming into force until you've been at a job for one year. Yay...
If you work full time (~2080/yr), then $700 amounts to $0.33 (33¢) per hour, or about $27 per biweekly paycheck. Any union worth their salt will certainly get wages increased by more than that. Unfortunately, for a lot of people at or near poverty, that $27 makes a huge difference.
Same thing with fighting anti-union activity by your employer - yeah, it's federally protected and you'll likely win in court and get back pay, but few can afford to not get paid for the intervening months while it works its way through the system.
I was agnostic for quite a while. I viewed it with an air of "scientific smugness", thinking "since there's no way to prove one way or the other, of course agnosticism is the only rational view."
What finally pushed me to full atheism was 2 thoughts:
Whether there is a god or not, the universe operates as if there isn't. By that I mean, we've chipped away at the "god of the gaps" and found scientific explanations for every natural phenomenon that was previously attributed to god.
If there is a god, and they are omnipotent, then surely they would understand why I don't believe and would not punish me for that view. If they're truly omnipotent and want me to believe, they know exactly what kind of evidence would be necessary to change my mind. Since that hasn't happened, either there is no god, or there is and they're ok with punishing me for something they could resolve immediately, in which case fuck them.

The threat of appearance will be enough for a not insignificant number of people. But also, they can use historical voting numbers to selectively target certain locations. No need to send anyone to the R+17 or the D+22 districts.
Agreed. It's not so much a matter of changing church tax code, but changing 501c3 tax codes in general and having enough IRS agents to properly keep up.
I'd never heard of Anand G. until he did an episode of Stay Tuned with Preet a few weeks back, but he was a great guest and I instantly became a fan. HCR is amazing as well!
Fuuuck. There it is. I'd been wondering why the hell USAID garnered such ire, but I'd missed that. Now it makes sense. Thanks.
