that was my bro when asking about trump, he dint care to search further/research other than what he heard on social media. when confronted about trump, elon, or YE WEST he believes whats on the news is not what he saw on social media, or whatever someone else told him. thats how they think. and hes in tech too, but im seeing alot of upper middle class tech people as conservatives, especially amongst asians/pocs.
on lemmy it is, on reddit its used to describe both the hard left and usually to describe people ina specific sub, where they act as the "moral " center of that city/location that nobody wants thier opinion on, often time its been taken over by tankies of that city/location or conservatives. (such as fare inspection, jury duty etc, they act all holier than thou you should do the right thing, and would immediately try astroturf you if you offered oppoite opinion)
there some .ml accounts that just talking about tech, i assume that what it is originally for, but it was co-opting by hard left politics at some point.
i pointed it out in one of community still harboring them, that is not part of that instance, what a surprise instant downvote, and comment removed (especially criticizing CHINas lack of innovaiton or population problems) and im asian myself. funny thing on a post on reddit recently about "voters, left and right base) someone mentioned how tankies are pretty much non-voters themselves, they just like to complain but they dont vote for thier preferred members thats why there is no left wing in america. i call these people inactivist.
