  • That "article" is painful to try and read, it's like a run on thought that bounces all over the place. The author really should make a clear outline and could probably cut out half by not saying the same thing over and over and over again. I stopped after the third time I read about Fedora flatpaks are different from flathub flatpaks, and users like flathub more, but the author is apparently eventually going to explain why that's an issue after 2K words of nonsense.

  • The wild part is how he goes on and on about how we (the US) are being screwed on trade deals, and you can go back and watch an announcement of him making that deal during his 1st term. He has spent more time reversing or just fake adjusting his own trade terms this whole time while blaming Biden who left most of it untouched so as not to tank the economy he was trying to bring back to life.

  • Most all the major distros have a way to install things outside of the project's official repos. And this is a "people didn't look at the PKGBUILD" issue, nothing to do with "bleeding edge" FUD.

    This has been an issue with other distros in the past.

  • Your generic "barcode" for something like a UPC is considered a 1D barcode and uses things like the spacing of the lines and thickness to encode data. Although some 1D barcodes can detect the barcode is damaged they cannot do error recovery.

    Your 2D barcodes, like QR or Data Matrix, store data in both directions and depending on format can have varying levels of error correction (duplicate data) built into the barcode. They also obviously can take up less room and hold the same or more data as well. You do need a scanner that can do 2D barcodes though, as not all scanners will read them.

  • They are not at all the same thing.

    A QR code is just a 2D barcode that can be used to hold a certain amount of alphanumeric data (and amount is limited by size).

    While pkpass is an Apple format used in its wallet app to store data.

  • We don't keep Epic in an online repo just because Chromium is a massive codebase and Epic is not a fork but a modified version of Chromium so we don't have a consistent codebase rather it changes with each new version of Chromium. Chromium which Epic is built on is open source software which anyone can immediately download and audit.

    That is from the Epic FAQ page and doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy. They basically are hacking stuff onto Chromium and saying "just let us know what you want to see", and "BTW Chromium is auditable but since we are making who knows what kind of hacks to its codebase it's kinda a moot point".

  • Love that as soon as his name got attached to Epstein, that he's shifted to damage control and trying to push this narrative that it's been a "radical Left" issue this whole time. And trying to get all his conspiracy people to move on to an election that at this point doesn't matter either way is just full panic.

    They filled lawsuits all over the country that they had to withdraw because they had no evidence, yet continue to claim to be ready to release all the "evidence" they have anytime now for years. I think even his Supreme Court is going to find it hard to invent constitution law to back up their conspiracy theories. I would love to see them try though, make it televised, since they are just pissing away tax dollars anyway.

  • I think his administration has a 2 prong approach to their attack on weather science:

    1. It's an attack on all science that they look to replace with "thoughts and prayers"
    2. If you suppress the science showing how you're making everyone less safe and putting millions of lives at risk, that's good "damage control". Then you double down on "owning the libs" at the same time making crazy corrupt deals with the fossil fuel industry.

  • Interesting that they would be confused at all. I have an interest, because Canada is cool, but I won't be visiting anytime soon because I know we are the worst and nobody is going to want us there. I also don't want to deal with assholes at the border, even though I'm a US citizen they have carte blanche to do anything they are in the mood for.
