  • The important part of this is Trump launching his new crypto "lending" platform they can't explain. It's surely to be a vessel for bribes to flow into and out of the new administration, and for all his "friends" to try and do all their shady business dealings. Allowing him to keep his new platform/fake-crypto-bank (or even his kids to proxy) while also being able to have it regulated (well apparently deregulated - although it's already the wild west) seems like a HUGE conflict of interest/liability.

  • Likely not, but what other choice is there? The best bet at this time is to hope we can wrestle the presidency back from Trump in 2028, and in January 2029 if he has enough mental awareness to legally stand trial then the DOJ can recharge and try him.

  • Yeah, sounds like the more mature Plex backend might just be better for your use case. But just because I'm curious are you running Jellyfin as an app or in docker? And is your Synology Intel based or AMD, as the latter will only do software transcoding and probably easily overwhelm a NAS CPU.

  • Regain (and Nancy x100) were both racist bigots, but Trump (and Vance will be if it gets him attention) are fascist wannabe dictators that have plans of dismantling the whole government, healthcare, and education systems in the US. They have plans to help further the Rights push for voter suppression and ways to cheat (and/or exploiting loopholes without shame).

    So Nancy might have shaped dementia Regains policies for the worst, and Bush Sr. may have committed all sorts of crimes against humanity using the CIA, but Trump plans to run us into the ground and sell the scrap to whatever dictator says the nicest things to him.

    And Vance may be even more dangerous in that he will have zero control of his party, and will changeling into whatever he's told to be by whoever will let him be "President". He would sell his family for fame "or whatever makes sense" in his void of emotion brain.

  • This is Smith seeing his hands tied because Trump ran out the clock and then enough assholes put him back in office where the Supreme Court and DOJ policy blocks him from being prosecuted for [at least] the next 4 years. It also states that come January 2029 he can refile charges on a then dementia ravaged 82 year old man.

  • You're not going to get people to do that without some sort of protection for them and their families. If you're a Dr. that can save hundreds, or be locked up because you saved 1 person, it's a tough case for being the fall person.

    Now if they could get a union walkout nationwide (or at least statewide), then they have leverage.

  • It comes as California has reported 29 confirmed human cases of bird flu since early October, primarily stemming from cows, according to CDPH. Of those cases, 28 had direct contact with infected cows, all cases had mild symptoms that were primarily eye infections, and none required hospitalization.

    "No person-to-person spread of bird flu has been detected in California or the U.S [yet!!]," the news release said.

    Emphasis is mine, but pink eye for everyone sounds like it's going to be amazing. An anti-vaccine Health Department seems like the perfect sequel to the COVID ball drop/denial of the first admin.

    Rampant infectious disease, tariffs, and mismanagement on everything are exactly the changes needed to help every American. /s

  • I think the transcode part is decided by the client, but in the Jellyfin server admin you can control if a client can request a transcode (which may not be actually needed - and if you know what client they are running it's probably easier to decide). This could just be client setting though, because I know on Jellyfin you can change the "backend" in the client that it tries to use and can make the difference on things like x265/HVEC playing back or not.

  • Interesting, again at least in the android/web/Linux client ecosystem I've not experienced any of those issues, and Jellyfin has caused me less family tech support issues than Plex or Emby. I guess it all depends on the platform, and how much outside of just media consumption you're wanting your server to do.

  • I think instead of being hostile to people coming to the US for a better life, perhaps we could create faster pathways to citizenship. Allow them to work and pay taxes while processing, and allow them to have that better life, and to be invested in making the US a better place.

    And nobody is saying just allow anyone in, we could still screen people (like we already do), but we could also treat them like people. This whole thing of making these people the enemy is FUD in order to allow the Right to control its base, and the Left now feels they need to do "border-Nazi-lite" because the Right has controlled the narrative on this for so long.
