  • So, AI.

  • Yeah, I usually joke I’m too hipster for Reddit and use Lemmy when Reddit comes up, and nobody ever asks for more information. I feel like, at least in their current form, federated apps are too complicated/fussy for anyone who isn’t actively interested in moving away from centralized platforms.

  • Project Hail Mary was my first thought when I read “audiobooks” and “sci-fi”. Not only is there an aspect to the story that lends itself particularly well to the audiobook format, but the narrator (Ray Porter) is so good I’ve sought out other books he’s narrated.

  • I met one at a petting zoo, sat on the ground, and it crawled up into my lap like a cat. I died.

  • I shave my head in the shower every couple of days. Trim my beard once a week.

  • Not gonna work here anymore, anyway.

  • I have a Kindle and love it, but if you don’t want to go with Amazon, I think Kobos are a solid option! The current best models are the Kindle Colorsoft and the Kobo Libra Colour, but they both have cheaper models as well.

  • I can’t recommend getting an e-reader more. It’s so much nicer than staring at a backlit screen for extended periods of time.

  • I actually did go back to a regular iPhone Pro after using the Pro Max for a while, and feel like I could go even smaller. I have a tablet for when the situation calls for it, and I like my phone to be more compact/easy to hold.

  • Thanks! These are definitely the most common spiders I see outdoors around here.

  • Maybe an unpopular opinion, but me. I think my current phone still has a gen or two in it, but I’ll probably go this route for my next upgrade. I don’t need all the features even my current phone has, and I’m a sucker for a sleek device.

  • We’ve looked at how our teams work best, and the data is clear: when people work together in person more often, they thrive — they are more energized, empowered, and they deliver stronger results.

Would be interested in seeing that data.

  • Getting older and finding anxiety meds that actually worked for me here. It’s vastly improved my social life, especially around asking people out. There’s literally no downside or reason to be nervous about it.

  • Not many. My phone is typically on Do not Disturb when I’m not working, and a custom focus mode I call Deep Work when I am working. The primary difference just being focus filters so I can use the same calendar/email app I like but not see anything work related outside regular work hours. I’ll check in on my notifications somewhat regularly, but basically nothing can actually ping me.

  • As someone in this camp, this is very accurate. I’m simply very selective about the amount of fucks I give at work, and save them for my personal life. It makes me a better worker on top of having better work/life balance.

  • Check out the Rubin Observatory! I’ve been to a few astronomy talks recently that have discussed it, it’s incredible the amount of new discoveries it’s expected to make in the coming years.

  • I’ll never be a dad, but I definitely inherited my dad’s sneeze.

  • If you have the ability to do this on your first day, it’s 100% not your fault.
