  • If this is the way your cat is about food, it’s not that they need to change to lose weight. You need to change the food they’re eating. Cats are a little unique in that they don’t stop eating when they get full, like we do. They stop eating when their nutritional needs are met. Dry food for cats is like fast food for us. It’s not what they should be eating. They should be eating a high protein, low carb diet. Kibble is pretty much the worst vessel for that nutritional balance.

Raw is best. Primal makes good stuff. Small batch, vital essentials. Stella and chewy’s is still better than dry, but they do use vitamin packs to round out the diet instead of whole food sources. There are a lot of cooked whole food diets now, which is still better than kibble. Canned is in the same category.

My cat eats raw and has her whole life, basically. She sleeps later than I do, eats her meals as she pleases after the bowl is out, throughout the day. She doesn’t bug me about food. She gets excited when the food and treats are opened, but she never seems to be dying for food like so many cats do.

Feed your cats well! You start to notice how fluffy and shiny their coats get, how much happier and healthier they seem. Even if you can’t go full whole food, do as much as possible! Kibble should be pretty much as discouraged as a food that can keep them alive should be. They need moisture from their food and they need primarily meat. They’re obligate carnivores!

  • But it’s just such a twisted way of thinking about it. You’re telling people to sacrifice their firmly held beliefs, and you’re mad at people who didn’t. But you’re not expending any of that energy trying to change the problematic politicians.

I understand trump is worse. But that does not guarantee his opponent any votes simply because they aren’t him. They have actively turned further and further away from us. At what point does that ever affect your vote? They were taking part in an active genocide. And openly claiming they were not going to change that.

…what do they have to do to lose your vote? Could they be actively rounding up people in work camps?

We all understand the difference between trump and the dems.

But my entire point is what is your vote worth? Apparently it’s worth not very much and can stomach at least genocide without being turned away. Not mine.

And if you’re going to keep blaming people, and not the politicians, then we are going to keep running into this problem. Because the trend has not been kind to us, to you or me. This keeps happening. The politicians have shown us their tactics will be continually moving to the right. It’s been that way my whole life. Genocide was the dealbreaker for me. Not for you. But this is the world we are living in now. And blaming us isn’t changing shit. Maybe you should start aiming your anger at the people making those choices.

  • No, Russia became an autocracy by never being a free state after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The chaos of just adding a president to the existing Soviet order and then the overpowered oligarchs vying for power and buying the “privatized” industries through nepotism and backroom deals is how it happened. Not to mention Yeltsin literally forcing his constitution into law by having tanks fire on the parliament and arresting its members, resulting in an incredibly powerful president who appointed basically the entire government.

The same few oligarchs and corrupt politicians retaining power, especially when the president holds outsized power in the system led the country to an autocracy. It wasnt from people thinking “both are immoral, voting doesn’t make a difference.”

The Russian people know voting doesn’t make a difference because the government did nothing to show they’re trustworthy. 88% of the vote, the competitors being arrested or suicided?

Ignoring immoral politicians and giving them power despite their shortcomings is far more likely to lead to autocracy. It’s not on the voter to cast their vote. It’s on the politicians to earn the votes. Thinking it’s the other way around is incredibly twisted. And honestly really sad that that’s the way people think.

  • So you’re saying the democrats are receiving proper blame for supporting the genocidal state, but it’s the people who didn’t vote for either of the pro-genocide candidates that are to blame?

Why do so many people constantly just misframe this argument as “it’s the people who didn’t vote’s fault!” And not the fault of the actual people in power for not standing up to a genocide, for once again moving right to capture a “centrist swing” voter, for parading out the fucking neocons as proof of their ability to fucking govern, and for openly arming the genocide?

You want to lay blame at voters’ feet, but not the people who couldn’t do enough to earn the votes of people…asking not to be involved in genocide. Our votes aren’t theirs to fucking have no matter what they do. What they have done and will do in power matters. If it doesn’t, what the fuck is the point of voting? Why not just trade places back and forth for increasingly bold warmongers and autocrats?

Don’t blame the voter for not sacrificing their morals and for not holding their nose and saying maybe they wont keep contributing to genocide. Blame the people fucking supporting genocide.

  • WHERE IS THE RED LIGHT FROM

  • Hm. I guess we just see things differently. I’m not subscribing to any idea simply because it falls under any particular label. I think a local system relying on artisans and local foods and the basic needs of those within the community coming first would be amazing. I don’t yearn for industrialized labor. Would a worker-owned system be better than what we have right now? Of course. But I think massive globalization, industrialization, and homogenization has been mostly a net negative, especially for the environment. You and I mostly agree. But if we’re talking utopia, or aspirational system, then smaller scale and localized would be best. I see seizing the means of production as a bandaid on a gaping wound. It helps, but it’s a first step because we need to start somewhere.

  • Well…yeah. Mass production was a bad turn for the worker. That kinda proves my point. It led to consolidation of wealth and power in the hands of the barons.

And why is saying a technology is a net negative “primitivist?” Haven’t multiple technologies exploited everyone more while operating as spying and brainwash machines? At some point the more advanced technological advancements became more advanced tools of oppression.

Going back to “dumb” technologies and slower communication should very well be a goal for a more truly advanced society. Technology hasn’t set us free, in fact it’s almost exclusively been a tool of the bourgeoisie to further exploit everyone else. To demand more of our time, to steal more of our attention. I agree with pretty much all of what you said. But with just a different inflection in the point.

  • I mean, why does it have to be one thing we are trying to not support? People in leftist spaces are trying to root out AI because of its myriad global problems and the way that the industry is akin to a new type of destructive bomb in the class war. Consolidating more wealth and power into the hands of the same technocrat few, poisoning the earth, destroying the livelihood of artists (and entire companies and divisions of workers across multiple industries because bosses are seeing dollar signs), stealing from the many and giving to the few in terms of creativity, it’s set to benefit the VCs…what is there to like about it?

You’re seeing a lot of talk about it because so many people thoughtlessly bought in when the more moral action would be to abstain from using it and insist on spaces that don’t welcome it. It’s not really that we are shifting energy away from more important things. It’s just that people will always say “hey, can we not use this here?” And you’re acting like we’re letting starving orphans starve so we can fight AI.

  • I think it’s just that they were saying his won’t end up benefitting us. It’s just changing who is holding the binoculars.

  • “Quietly indicated.” They intentionally leaked that story to bring up the stock price.

  • This is it. Why the fuck is the blame on the people who didn’t vote for a terrible candidate supporting a genocide and not the fucking people supporting the genocide?! Why did the dems all support that censorship bill, when they were initially speaking up about it? Why does it seem like the more exhausted he populace got with trump and his shit, he more democrats seemed to use that as an excuse to start supporting the republicans? Where is all the “stop trump” and “stop fascism” dems now? Why does it seem like they’re done grandstanding about standing up to trump and seem to have rolled over to keep their jobs or whatever it is? Why does this seem all okay, and why is the blame for all of that on people who couldn’t stomach supporting a candidate that was not standing up to a genocide and was parading around the fucking worst of the neocons? Why is it always on the people who didn’t sacrifice their values to once again stomach a candidate that goes against their basic human morals, and not on the politicians continually moving to the right? Why blame the people who see the rightward march of the Democratic Party as a death knell for the country, and not on the people who are fucking marching right as fast as the fascists continue to radicalize? Why the fuck can these assholes not see that we don’t give a shit that you think you’re morally superior to us because you “voted against fascism,” when the party you voted for seems to be actively ushering fascism in through the door?

Where is the fucking class solidarity? These people are selling you out, and you turn to your neighbor to say, “well, you should’ve just voted differently.” We are well beyond this being on us. This is on the people driving the ship, not the ones stuck in the cargo hold screaming that we’re fucking sinking.
