Not only am I boycotting because of the threat of war and tariffs, but when it comes to food I just don't trust what's coming from the US. With them continuing to remove regulations, and RFK being a crazy person, who the hell knows what's going to end up in the food.
It's difficult to know if a business you frequent uses Microsoft, but I suppose you can always ask.
But, as an individual you can choose to avoid MS. Linux is really good these days and Libre Office will do most of what you need. It may not be identical to the MS experience, but you do have a choice.
I also support investing in jobs, infrastructure, and pragmatic environmental policy. That means giving oil companies the boot and investing heavily in renewables and all the trades people that will make it happen. But I'm sure the BCA has different ideas.
This is absolutely awful! A bunch of people harmed by police for being at an event near a protest. Guilty by association I guess.
In case anyone missed it from the article
"The march, organized by P!nk Bloc Montréal and several other 2SLGBTQ+ community groups, was intended as a protest in opposition to what organizers said was the corporatization of traditional pride and a loss of its roots. P!nk Bloc did not respond to CBC's request for an interview."
Also:
"Actually, we ended up being hurt by the police," he said. "I don't know how dangerous the march was, but [the protesters] were definitely not the ones that were attacking us."
When prices drop it's because privatization is the best and nothing else but privatization! When prices skyrocket it's because of unforseen external market factors but still somehow record profits.
Taxes are bad cause they pay for public infrastructure, schools, and all kinds of public goods. That's gross disgusting communism.
This is extortion protection money that all goes into Trump's pockets. This is glorious amazing capitalism with a Christ seal of approval, so its good.
(Ya, I don't get it either. Sounds like a tax to me too)
Conservatives have been behind every bullshit moral panic for well over 100 years. Hell, within the last few weeks we've seen them coerce Visa and MasterCard into banning video games they don't like.
If this guy doesn't meet the standards to perform at a government facility then that's what it is. There are a lot of bands I like that I wouldn't expect to he approved either. Imagine the conservative outrage if Nine Inch Nails were to perform Hersey in public (especially when you contrast the music with how nice Trent Reznor seems to be).
That's a constant across all of digital technology. So the only way to avoid it is to not use the technology.
But if you do, buying Apple means you are supporting the base level slave labour in China + support for Trump + a locked in ecosystem + a cycle of planned obsolescence. There are other products you can buy that subtract from this equation and may add in some benefits.
We have such limited agency, and nothing will change instantly, so we have to make the best choices we can to push people to do better.
We need laws to punish posting straight up misinformation. The law has ruined peoples lives over sharing a simple mp3, and yet people posting misinformation remain untouched. It's sick.
Take a look at the Kobo Elipsa. I know someone who has it and they like it a lot. They use it daily at work for taking notes. I think you can export your notes to a computer by connecting it via USB and mounting it as a drive.
Tedious tasks are also great for assigning to juniors to help them learn.
I'll often use tedious tasks as a testing ground for new technologies as well. Tedium leads to innovation.
