  • I read somewhere awhile back their platinum donors gave a certain tier (10k or 100k or whatever it was). To be clear I'm more than open to being surprised here, I want Ladybird to succeed. I just resent Shopify being involved in any way, I'm a little bit petty after slogging it out at that company awhile because I know what they're all about.

  • True

  • You may have misunderstood. It was Shopify who did the big NFT play on their platform. I don't know much about the Ladybird team, I'm not trying to throw shade on them.

  • I mean I hope Ladybird devs do a great build and go their own way without being corrupted by their donors and all that, don't get me wrong. But whenever I see that dumb shopping bag logo I get the no feelings.

You can also read up on how the vast majority of Mozilla's funding has been coming from Google for a very long time, and draw your own conclusions from that fact.

  • Shopify (i.e. Shittify) being their top donor already has me looking sideways at this project. They'll invest in anything they think they can get an edge with and if something starts to happen they'll fuck it up and wallstreet-ify it as fast as possible if they can.

Their (Shopify's) guru founder Tobi made a huge NFT play that went absolutely nowhere while I still worked there. They spent a lot of time and money on it, right before they laid several thousand people off.

  • They won't even clean up their own oil well sites. Look up how many oil companies hide all their profits and then declare bankruptcy so that they can get the taxpayers to clean up after a given oilfield runs dry.

I don't have a lot of hope in them taking care of the other end of the process either, unless it's by force.

  • I find it strange that more people haven't put it together yet. The stuff plastics are made of is literally toxic byproduct from the O&G industry. Yes some of the products have extremely functional uses, but for the rest of it, they're literally selling us their toxic waste and trying to make us responsible for disposing of it.

They might as well be standing outside the grocery stores with a barrel of goo and offering you a portion of it (for a price of course!) on your way out. So then you take it home and try to figure out what to do with it, and feel bad when you realize there is no way to dispose of it in an ethical way which is why they're shoving the responsibility onto you.

  • It's probably some type of cypher. Which will take people exactly one (1) afternoon to crack.

  • If you use a DNS solutions you can block all the telemetry shit. Frankly FF has been phoning home in a lot of undesirable ways for many years even before this, like most browsers.

  • Wish there was an even darker nottheonion to catalog and curate stories like this that are extremely commonplace but also too fucking much to accept. aboringdystopia is pretty close to it.

  • I mean your pivot/kick point on this board is right over the truck so it takes some different pressure and balance but it's doable. On a shorty you're quite a bit higher and behind the truck. I can shovit with ease and olley with some effort but like you I didn't get it to do tricks per se, I got it because doing a lot of street skating being able to kick it over 90 degrees or more is fundamental. You can't do that with a big heavy log.

The drop thru trucks and big cutaway with the kicks at the ends is nice because you can ride your trucks loose af. I don't know if that appeals to you but that's how I roll.

  • Check out the Loaded Tan Tien or it's bigger sister the Dervish Sama. They're light, snappy, have enough of a kick to throw it around and just overall fun as fuck to skate. Throw on some Paris trucks and some mid sized street wheels.

I've had my Tan for like 12 years and still love it.

  • I'm in testing and almost ever fucking week I'm trying to QA a release cycle while they're pushing three last minute features and fucking with the backend, meaning all the frontend stuff I've already tested needs done again.

    Yep.

  • What's this? The architect of the 1994 crime bill who helped the Dems get elected on a platform further right than the GOP on policing and prisons is pro-police? Huh. TIL.

  • Between this community and the actual Onion I get pretty much the gist of current events, yeah. If some topic or other piques my interest from here, I'll chase it down. The Onion and its opposite tend to give me enough of the context I need to figure out what's important enough to pursue vs the vast majority of quasi-satire hitting "normal" news cycles over a given week.

It's like a hyper-curated way to get my news, as if handpicked for me by a space clown. And I like it that way.

  • I understand that. However logging is taking out fir forests and replanting with pine and spruce. I hazard a guess that if the biomass were left alone less issues would occur given those primary forests have thrived for a very long time on their own.
