  • I intentionally did not answer their question, because I don't know. What I addressed was their misconception that Cosmic is based upon Gnome.

  • Okay, but now that I've seen it, I'm like, "Yeah, I could build that!" So you've both saved me garage space and $175. Thanks!

  • Cosmic runs its own window manager called cosmic-comp, whereas Gnome uses Mutter. The tiling is baked into the Cosmic window manager, whereas you'd need to use an extension to get the same functionality on Gnome.

Glad to hear you're liking it, though! While I currently use Gnome with the PaperWM extension, Mutter is frustratingly behind on some current WM improvements (without good reason, IMO).

If you enjoy the tiling aspects, check out similar projects like Niri, as their window management shares some of the same codebase! Lots of neat projects out there, these days.

  • Neat. Seems like a cool project to keep an eye on.

  • Sorry, I can't hear you over all the Linux on my computers since last year. Did you say "promises to shit on the OS and super push AI?" Yeah, sounds about right for Microslop.

  • I switched from Addy to unbox.at . It's the same software but hosted by adminforge.de, and you can use the full features for free (and donate as you find it useful). This includes utilizing your own domain.

I don't know if you can use the official Google Play version of Addy.io to manage it, but the F-droid version works perfectly with Unbox (and the web interface is identical). Highly recommended.

  • Playnite is the better choice if you're on Windows, but either way, don't let Tim's dumb store stop you from ruining his day by generating a bunch of metrics that show you're only playing freebies!

  • I bet that's a "feature" for AI slopbots to use.

  • Well that didn't take long lmao

  • Yes, correct. I wrote the wrong thing.

  • Even if we put aside enshittification, who is asking for these features? I never did; I just want a plan that has password, TOTP, and Passkey management + sharing. If people want all that extra stuff, like email masking, secure sending, and gigantic attachments, let them pay $20 a month year and let the rest of us have a $10 plan with just password management + sharing.

This seems like some executive losing the plot of what this software is to people.

  • You're not, but as counterintuitive as it may seem, there are people who use the Fediverse and big platforms like TikTok, Xitter, etc. My words are for them.

  • Enjoy.

Say hi to the PMs and QA for me.

  • Maybe—and I'm going out on a limb here—just maybe, using centralized media to document State-sponsored domestic terrorism is a fucking stupid idea. Especially since the very same platform is co-owned by the State.

Y'all, we already went through this with Xitter. Sorry you fell for it again, but this won't be the last time if you continue to cling to platforms owned by the very people who want to censor you.

  • I appreciate your opinion, but I don't believe you.

  • Bruh, your only "rebuttal" was a straw man and an appeal to authority. Make a better argument before you go accusing people of being trolls.

  • I've seen their explanation once. From what I can recall, it's to expose the existence of other instances. Many people join .world or .ml, not realizing that the point of the Fediverse isn't to join the biggest or first instance you can find.

  • DDR4 is still somewhat affordable (I stress "somewhat"), and it should still be plenty fast enough for gaming. You can get a 32GB kit for ≈$200, which is only double (lol) what it was a few years ago.
