  • If they would have focussed on making a good place first, and then corrupting it with commercialism, they could have at least boiled a few of us frogs. But you can't start with the commercialism foot forward and the quality foot behind and expect to make a place worth visiting.

  • Here's the thing, if there was drugs on the boat, killing them still isn't ok. But no, we don't even "know" if they are telling the truth about the drugs either. We have no idea why they want these people killed. We have to "trust" them... I don't.

  • My mom was disgnosed with fibromyalgia at a time when most doctors either hadn't heard of it, or dismissed it as not being a real thing still. She's had a pretty long road of it. Luckily she had a good doctor at the time, I couldn't imagine how much worse it would be if any of those other doctors had been hers at the time.

    It already sucked enough when she was referred to specialists or had to go in for other tangentially related stuff where it was important for them to know she had fibro. Her doctor would catch flak from them for writing it down as her official diagnosis. So glad her doctor was able to handle that and persevere. As great as it probably feels to eventually be proven right, it certainly couldn't have felt great getting there.

  • Hehe, yeah. In the oldendays there was newspaper as an option for drying glass streak-free. It was never the best choice luckily, but it used to be prevalent. A squeegee was the old better solution, and a microfiber cloth is the new better solution.

  • Hehe, I just meant the collecting and redistributing knowledge part. Though yes, it also doesn't qualify as knowledge, just a string of words that seems like it fits the occasion. Though.... not to sell myself short, but not super far off.

  • Hehe yeah, I know it's slowly losing functionality... but I think I'm gonna ride this horse until just before it goes over a cliff. I just really like the presentation I've dialed in. I tried all the other apps and can't get anything that feels like me.

    When I first came here, I grabbed every app, and put a few hours into each, and it was no contest. Sync hands down had the best UI configuration for me. There were multiple sticking points on each other app that were just deal breakers.

    I have tried them all again recently, and still didn't find anything else I liked.

    I haven't looked into why sync doesn't get updates anymore, hoping it's not guaranteed permanent... afraid to look.

  • If you are catching spray, try to increase the follow distance between you and the vehicle ahead. Same deal for rocks in places where that is a concern. It can be hard to leave a big gap, for fear that someone will come into that gap, but you can't fix everyone, you can only fix you.

    But, we also do have wipers for anything that happens during the current drive, not as good as not getting dirty in the first place, but better than staying dirty.

  • It was general advice for the situation, not specific to the image. There are many things that can cause it to be much more difficult to see when driving towards a low sun than it actually needs to be. It's not a great situation at it's best, but it shouldn't be fully debilitating.

  • I am an autistic 41 year old man that lives in my parents basement. I just collect information and re-distribute it where it is needed.

    I am basically the pre-cursor to an LLM, an LLM made of meat.

    If you've ever watched or read anything with that "wise old hermit" that people line up to ask their philosophical questions to. That was an oldendays autistic person of the same type as me. Can't function in society, but has no emotional thinking to cloud their logic. The thing is, no matter how logical the advice was, and how much it made sense in the moment, it may not have been applicable to normal people. Though I am of course aware of the nature and source of my clarity and try to keep it in mind when giving advice. Unlike the wise hermits of old.

    Not to say I am always right, and not to say logic is always the correct solution. But it often is, and I often am.

  • Clean your windshield, inside and out, and polarized sunglasses, or sunglass clips for glasses. And make sure any level of astigmatism you may have is known and corrected for.

    If after washing your windshield, it still scatters the incoming light too much, it is probably pitted. You may have to consider replacing it. It is part of maintaining a vehicle. It may suck to be surprised with an expense like that, but the surprise expense of an avoidable accident is much worse. And might not only be expensive.

  • While my algorithm feed is still pretty clean, I only use it to find new people to subscribe to if I'm not getting enough good videos to satisfy the time I want to spend. Otherwise I do the new videos on my subscriber feed first, and only go to the rest if I want to after.

    But alternate options are fine too, just, youtube can still be made to work for you if you control it, rather than letting it feed you.

  • Ok, so it'd be like if a wikipedia page about jesus said he was "our lord and saviour" instead of saying "some people consider him to be their lord and saviour". A page for "Lord and saviour" as a phrase might still list jesus as one possible link.

    Basically taking a first person position on it, instead of a third person position. Like grokipedia is writing from first person perspective that Hitler is the fuhrer, which when you consider that it is a significant departure from the wikipedia article, as only 0.01% of the content of grokipedia is, suggests it's a hand crafted article written by someone that would refer to hitler personally as the leader, and not as someone some people used to call "the leader".

    There is a reason it was edited immediately as soon as people noticed, due to how bad it looked once pointed out.

  • Only his followers actually use(d) that title for him, everyone else when using that word about him, would say it's the title his followers call(ed) him. Like how wikipedia is using it. Grok is just using it as his title, like a follower would.

    You can think of it kind of like "dear leader" in north korea. Anyone calling him that outside of north korea is at least doing it sarcastically or using air quotes. This would be like if the news called him that with a sincere reverent tone.

  • To be fair, the wikipedia article says he was called that by the people that followed him. It never calls him that itself.

    The grokipedia article, just calls him that.

    A subtle, but very important, distinction.

    Not to mention the other important part where grok buries any mention of the holocaust 13000 words in, where as it's in the intro on wikipedia.

    Keep in mind, by default, grokipedia started with a copy of what wikipedia said, so any changes are what was hand-edited on purpose.

    The changes speak to what they wanted it to say and do differently.

  • I suppose it depends on perspective, but I feel like if John Romero says it was made with mouse controls intended as the default, he's probably right, as he would be one of the few people to know what they had in mind when making it.

  • Does she have a more comfortable passive social life? Like online friends or something parasocial at least? She may very much enjoy the alone times she gets as you are enjoying your social times. Most introverts only need one or two close friends and have trouble enjoying anything more. Too many, and you don't end up getting enough alone time, or feel like you have to push for it, and we tend not to like having to push for things.

    But as with pretty much all relationship problems, find a way to talk to her about it. She's the only one that can tell you what she wants or how she feels.

    "Rock and Balloon" relationships are actually pretty common. You both end up feeling like you are influencing the other ones behaviour more than they would want. But often times you are both actually seeking that influence. And it will feel like you are pulling them against their nature all the time, but if you talk about it, you may find that you are both comfortable with the arangement. Or not... if through conversation you find that one is pulling too hard, that can be adjusted too.
