  • You can say that it isn’t for you but you can’t say it’s a shitty show. It’s one of the most influential shows of the 90s. Cheers, All in the Family, MASH, and Seinfeld are probably the only ones that compare. (I’d like to put Malcolm in the Middle and Married with Children up there too but that’s probably giving them too much credit)

  • I haven’t had that experience here. I’ve had some unpleasant dustups with some leftists here but beyond having comments removed for being pro capitalist by .ml admins, I haven’t had any issues with moderation. Sure I’ve been heavily downvoted but I’ve never gotten banned.

  • If you want a place with no bans, then start up your own instance. Nobody can ban you. Sure they could defederate from you, but they couldn’t ban you.

    If you want a platform that can’t ban anyone AND can’t block anyone, well you could make your own platform but I wouldn’t expect many to join you because nobody wants that.

    We have the freedom to say what we want. We don’t have the freedom to force people to hear it though.

  • Using a SSG such as Hugo, you don’t write HYML. You use Markdown. Which is the same format that you use for posts on Lemmy. You don’t get the full MS Word of the formatting gamut but in exchange your posts look the same anywhere you put them that uses Markdown.

    In fact there is someone that made a front end that literally uses Lemmy as the backend for your posts.

    This is an impassioned but somewhat unhinged rant. I sympathize with it but thinking rationally you can’t just make it illegal and expect all the bad things to go away. It’s already illegal to make revenge porn or pornographic material without the subjects consent. It’s already illegal to create and share csam. Making AI illegal isn’t going to make those things super duper illegal and magically make them go away forever.

    As far as AI displacing human jobs, I agree its usage by corporations needs to be regulated and taxed so that displaced workers get paid a human dividend. Eventually we’d all need a human dividend as a UBI if AI does what the bros say it will.

    2. db0 is an anarchist not a communist. Lemmy world has some tankie users too, but it’s clearly moderated to be a liberal instance and that’s why the majority of users there are liberal. .ml has plenty of liberal users too, but it’s still tankie. The tankie triad is based on the admins, not users

  • Your comment seems to misunderstand federation and the function of activitypub. Lemmy does have an All front page that is the front page of All Lemmy servers that your instance knows about and hasn’t defederated with.

    You don’t need an account for each instance, you just post on your local instances copy of the community/post and your post shows up on all other Lemmy servers that you instance knows about.

    You may have inadvertently made your own point, that it isn’t intuitive for newcomers but a single front page/account totally defeats the purpose of decentralized social media.

    You have described BlueSky which is distributed but not decentralized and will enshittify the same as Reddit and twitter and the only benefit to ATProto is some other public benefit corp could potentially host a copy of the network in its place until that business decides to enshittify of course
