If they do this it'll affect my elderly friend who's been down on his luck and has been struggling to find a job. None of this shit is a surprise but it still really sucks. :[
I've been trying to help get him on better footing, and when we finally got him on food stamps it was pretty much lifechanging for all the struggle he's been through.
Also I did watch his ~45 minute video about the detainment and it is disturbing what he went through, and I think the fact that he is getting this kind of attention from state security forces is an indication that he's on the right side of history, so that's granted, just so it's clear I'm not biased. But I was made to listen to a rant from Hasan against veganism and it was such an ass take I couldn't listen to the whole thing. If you're a Hasan fan that's fine, I enjoy some much worse media, just real slop on the regular so I'm not being edgy or holier than thou. But if you're a Hasan fan then I think you should be able to recognize where he sucks without (EDIT) immediately jumping to his defense, at least among more radically minded people.
(Edit: more radically minded than the general population, I mean.)
Maybe this is because I'm not a Hasan watcher but all this "he's doing more than any of you critics and complainers" and "you're just mad because he's better looking / richer etc" reminds me of the kind of glazing that goes on in any cult of personality.. not that Hasan's politics are anywhere near as bad as Musk's obviously, but it does remind me of the kind of glazing that Elon stans do.
There's an element of classism too, like you can't critique your betters because you weren't born with the family resources and connections that you get from being born moderately wealthy. Like excuse me if I'm not well positioned enough to talk to a million people online every day, but I think "progressive" streamers should not be glossing over AOC and Bernie's social fascism, (EDIT) for example.
And yes I am aware that Hasan is always raising money for based causes and that's awesome, he should keep doing that. I'll keep criticizing his liberal and reactionary tendencies though. This "you only criticize Hasan because you think you're too cool for school and nothing ever happens, you only criticize because you're an edgelord" BS is gross and childish, tbh.
This was possibly George Carlin's only shitty bit. Every mfer like you described thinks it's profound to point out how we're not trying to save the planet, we're trying to save ourselves. It's like... Yes... We're part of the only biosphere we know exists and that gives us the responsibility to do more of the things that sustain it and less of the things that degrade and destroy it.
Yeah same, they tend to justify it as "professional development" but the thing is... the lesson is redundant because most of us have had jobs already lol
My university does "flipped" lectures/homework for a lot of the engineering courses and yeah it's pretty dope a lot of the time, it's an efficient way to do things... but it also means some students just don't show up, and the professors tend not to like that (for a synchronous course).
Russia is not unique in using hybrid methods, so their effects and our response are closely followed by other actors, first and foremost China. Autocratic regimes favour hybrid warfare precisely because democratic states struggle with responding directly and proportionally
Lol, what? Are they including the USA as an autocratic regime? Because no country is a greater purveyor of hybrid warfare than the United States and its empire's appendages like NATO. Anyone with a passing knowledge of the CIA and state department's history and strategy understands this. Recent examples include the Nordstream bombing, the Maidan coup, grooming and installing al-Julani in Syria, and propaganda like MI6 using Russia panic to try to scare up some consent for mass militarization of the UK and EU, or hell, even this white paper from Estonia.
It's mainly the world's hegemon that uses hybrid strategies precisely because its targeted nations struggle to respond "directly and proportionally." Would Israel and the US have been so "brave" to proliferate the explosive pagers throughout Lebanon if Hezbollah were able to strike back directly and proportionally? Also, what's "direct and proportional" about using Israel as a proxy to perpetuate a decades-long regime of destabilization in West Asia, including the most egregious and blatant genocide in my lifetime on the Palestinians? Believing Russia or China are anywhere near being world leaders in hybrid warfare is utterly farcical clown shit, what a joke.
US had the clearest motive of all since destroying the pipelines meant not only that they could increase their control of the gas market and as you said, secure transshipment through Ukraine and Poland, but by doing so they also eliminated any possibility or pretense of Germany and Russia resuming their economic collaboration. The US had motives and plans to blow up Nordstream well before it happened. Biden said as such in Feb 2022 before Russia's SMO/invasion even began.
The bombing also forced Germany and the EU to deepen their dependency on the US and severely damaged German industry. Any benefits that accrued to Poland and Ukraine also accrued to the US. Also, US naval vessels were operating in the immediate area of the bombing, and were conducting underwater "training" exercises in the week leading up to the bombing. The US had the motive, means, and expertise to pull off the bombing. It should be obvious the USA did it.
