    It's useful if used right.

    Its damn annoying and damaging if used wrong.

    Like the internet.

    I recall people once regarded fiction / creative writing as the start of degraded reading, undermining what readers are.

    Looking at how dumb a LOT of people have become AI can also lead to an increase in knowledge because it reduces the difficulty to basic information.

    As long as it answers: "the world is round" and such, it can only get better in terms of general populous education.

  • I dislike the AI setup, but when I see attitudes of humans such as you ot makes a governance AI like in scifi look pretty good.

    AI is crap, but it would post better and more human friendly stuff than you I'd say.

  • My main concern goes two ways actually.

    One is that too many people simply "trust" it without question. This will be horror for all the already too gullible people for any topic, especially politics. Not to mention the social impact on upcoming generations.

    The flip side of it is the overblown anti-ai faction. Trying to make an disliked tool seem like something "evil" in every way is just going to make everything worse, as history has shown often enough.

    So, I guess my main issue is the speed with which AI crap is stuffed into our lives. With 90% just crappy marketing instead of actually having a proper use that makes sense.

    I give a fuck about it being AI. If a service works how I need it I don't care if its because of AI or because of OpenSearch or a little magical gnome in the machine. Don't stuff AI down my throat.

    To get into a cost range where my wife (same salary) and I feel comfortable to take on a loan requires us to move roughly one or two hours train travel out into the countryside.

    Look at corporations. They thrive, harm and exploit and all know it and the masses still use their products and services because they are often too good or too monopolistic to not.

    The same will be true for AI content. If it's by the masses perceived as good content it will be successful.

    And to be fair.... The human creations that get large traction and fanbases these days is really, really low in many cases.

    We humans are simply dumb on average.

  • It's actually a useful tool..... If it were not too often used for so very dystopian purposes.

    But it's not just AI. All services, systems, etc... So many are just money grabs, hate, opinion making or general manipulation.... I have many things I hate more about "modern" society, than I do as to how LLMs are used.

    I like the lemmy mindset far more than reddit and only on the AI topic people here are brainlessly focused on the tool instead of the people using the tool.
