A VPN on someone else’s box will mainly just cost you money and tie the traffic to yourself at a different location.
If you’re looking to hide questionable downloads, I’d recommend Usenet over torrents. A VPN isn’t really necessary then, and is usually discouraged with software like the arr’s.
I am all for the use of a VPN service, such as Mullvad, to increase privacy, but I don’t think you’ll have a good time self-hosting through it.
