Yeah, you have a point. As a parent and a woman she feels like Nicholas could have been killed while sparing his wife and children. Although it is still frustrating for me, but I will try my best to meet her where she’s at. I have done so before so I should be able to do it again. If she cares about the Tsar’s family then she would probably care about the families of the Bolsheviks too. But it is hard considering the movies and shows she watches give more focus to the royals, and thus they can be empathized with more than a faceless mass of starving, abused people.
It is so interesting how our mothers reflect the same values. Thank you for you comment, it helped give me some clarity.
My family is Portuguese, not Russian and my mother is not inclined towards Tsarism, and she is also not an anti-communist as she is supportive of me, my values, and the idea of communism as a whole in her own understanding of it. She’s even called herself a communist because of equality. She has not and probably never will read theory but she listens to me. I honestly do talk about practical issues a lot, but when it comes to the topic of history, which is what I am studying in school, she brings up her fascination with the royals and her sympathies with what happened to the Tsar and his family.
While my conversation with my mom was incredibly light in tone, I am quick to go on the defensive with others even if it is just internally so I will take your advice. I will instead “attack” in the best way possible for whatever situation I am put in. The matter-of-fact way you put the tsar’s fate in is probably how I will say it to my mom the next time it comes up. I will also add in that the conditions at the time dictated what needed to be done and there’s no changing it. The information about China’s last emperor is also very useful as it was something I thought about.
Thank you for the detailed reply, it is very helpful.
I completely agree with you, I also want people in the west to start viewing Russia differently and these initiatives do help in that regard. I guess I was a bit puzzled as Putin himself is not a fan of communism at all from what I can remember.
I would really appreciate any posts you’d like to share as I am very interested in what’s going on in Russia.
Seeing these monuments/statues being put up does give me a lot of feelings, mostly positive but also confusion due to the current government and Putin being anti-communist. I hope more of them are brought back, especially ones of Stalin as he had some amazing statues that unfortunately got torn down.
I did the exact same thing with “space,” “dog,” “student,” and “Chronic” lol. I am glad I seem to not feature at all on there, unless I missed something critical.
She’s been doing advertisements
that have really catered to incels but her most recent one was talking about “good genes” in an American eagle ad campaign. A lot of people have been talking about its eugenic undertones (overtones?).
I honestly don’t understand why the ACP/MAGA communists don’t consider baristas proletariat. Were the coffee makers in the USSR not part of the working class? I know it’s to do with some flavour of queerphobia, and because they hate queer people then that must mean they are bourgeoisie. I don’t know how these people can call themselves communists when they don’t even know it’s most basic concepts.
You can ban people but I think our comrade was too busy talking to and debating other chatters to pay attention to this person. He never actually acknowledged this MAGA guy in the first place.
It was weird because he does consider the proletariat but only when they fit a certain aesthetic. Queer folks and/or those that do not fit into the stereotype of the typical American blue collar worker are suddenly not part of the revolutionary class. It is just disheartening to hear as a queer communist (no blue hair but I used to dye it pink!).
It was actually so infuriating, I am somewhat glad that the comrade who was streaming probably didn’t notice. A lot of terrible people were in that chat and they were lucky that TikTok has a character limit because I would’ve gone a lot harder.
The only other movies about Unit 731 that I know of are Men Behind the Sun and Philosophy of a Knife, so its good we are getting more about it from China, especially since I am pretty sure the guy who made Men Behind the Sun is also anti-communist.
