    It's interesting, reading this comment and your others here, how you have to make things up so you can pass useless judgment on other people. That's also mildly infuriating - you're just shitting on people while saying nothing of value.

    You might want to think about why you do that. I can understand saying things people might not want to hear but should, but the only thing that would change if all your comments here just disappeared is everything would be more pleasant.

  • That's why I think more detailed articles should be written like scientific journal articles. One to three paragraphs that convey the gist of the article and the remaining pages dedicated to analysis and explanation.

    Not only would this be more work than a normal article, though, it'd reduce ad revenue because most people would read the abstract and leave.

  • It's good for me because I'm piss poor at programming. In my defense, I'm not a programmer or even programmer adjacent. I do see how it wouldn't be useful to a pro. It also has occasionally given me garbage advice that an expert would spot right away while I had to figure out in my own that it was 'hallucinating' again. There's nothing better for learning than troubleshooting, though!

So, by your justification, if a group of people were to universally support a terrorist group (which the Palestinians don't), then that's justification to kill every single man, woman, and child in that group. It's justification to ask non-combatants to relocate to so-called "safe"areas, then to bomb those safe areas. By your criteria, every United States citizen is also deserving of death.

    All your argument really shows is that you think genocide is acceptable under certain conditions (and that you're a terrible person).

  • This is correct. I'm a Prius driver. I get 45-55 mpg on the highway, depending on conditions. If it's just city driving, I get 55-65 mpg. I've had as high as 72 mpg, many years ago driving Uber downtown.

Your comment made me think of all the Americans I've met who actually believe the United States is a benevolent peacekeeper who altruistically polices the world and anyone who protests US Imperialism is simply ungrateful and just looking for a handout.

  • Great question. When it comes to utility billing, efficiency doesn't factor at all. Just like with electric billing, the utility company gives zero shits about what you do with your energy. They just bill you for everything you use.

    Utility companies keep track of the volume used in cubic meters and convert it to kWh using the formula...

    Volume (in cubic meters) • Calorific value (usually around 37-42) • 1.02264 (correction factor) ÷ 3.6 (conversion factor to kWh) = kWh

    The calorific value accounts for the varying energy density of natural gas caused by its inconsistent composition. The correction factor accounts for the effects of the average temperature and pressure at the property on gas volume measurement. 1.02264 is standard for most locations but would be different if the location is extreme, like the high elevation of Machu Picchu.

    What sucks about gas heating is some of the heat energy released leaves with the exhaust. The heating efficiency varies depending on the unit but is generally 90-95% for newer units but as low as 50% for older units. While 90-95% doesn't seem bad, electric heat pumps achieve efficiencies that exceed 100%, even as high as 300+%.

  • It's an easy conversion - 1 kWh is equal to 3412 Btus. In Germany, both electricity and natural gas are charged in kWh. I know a fair bit about energy measurement if you have any questions.

  • I'm there with you. If you haven't already, look into the treatments for mast cell activation disorder, it has a lot of overlap. In fact, I'm convinced they're largely the same thing. I'm popping pills like candy nowadays but I'm finally on the upswing.

  • In case anyone is on the fence about this issue and doesn't realize this is easily disproven misinformation, there hasn't been an election for the president or legislature in Palestine since 2006.. Hamas has maintained a stranglehold on the region for seventeen years by discontinuing elections.

    Even if that was true, this is a bad faith argument anyhow: it's entirely possible to focus on the atrocities being committed by both sides. Rivermonster simply seems to enjoy regurgitating Israeli propaganda.
