  • I really like what the shaders community is doing but these setups-time and expensive retro-hardware makes my just wanna find the first crt I can in a random vintage market, more faithful and less expansive.

  • You have options, since you still need different consoles if you are really into videogames, but PS3 is the single most valuable in my opinion:

    • It can't be always decently emulated on PC
    • Exclusives still today (mostly japanese)
    • Games need space so they are best to buy retail, they are cheap and on bluray (great durability over time)
    • You probably already have a 1080p display, so it works well on it.
    • You can play movies and cd audio on it, so a great companion to every desktop PC
    • Also eventually hackable if you prefer
    • It's so cheap to buy
  • Yeah I'm also looking for a PS2 with network extension for the drive. But I firstly need to find a CRT, I'm tired to play with shaders to get a decent experience.

  • Fat model?

  • Thanks

  • Snake Pass.

  • I suppose I'm allergic to sharing my data with corporations

More serious reply: I prefer to not depend on others on personal stuff that I can maintain by myself, eventually in a smarter and more versatile way.

  • Thanks

  • Interesting!

  • Do you mean a self-hosted service for a server?

  • I prefer QuodLibet but I'll check for Deadbeef again, thanks.

  • Qt version of cool GTK software: Nicotine+, Ardour (ahahah), Lutris, Cartridges

Qt software I would love to see graphically improved: QuodLibet, Falkon, Qbittorrent, KeePass

Others: PeerTube client, Syncthing client, Ardour+Kdenlive fusion (a good Video DAW is my wet dream), Lemmy for desktop

  • Prince is a genial performer and composer, in particular during the early 80s with the Minneapolis Sound: a unique style of New Wave based on Pop Funk Rock, and a precursor of explicit horny vibe after the first Glam Rock period. I like to compare Prince to Michael Jackson: where MJ is just a boring Disco Pop, Prince is the real king of Pop in the same period starting with the crazy Dirty Mind LP. In Purple Rain you can find the peak of a Minneapolis Sound with the Hard Rock influences.

  • Because Blu-Ray is the format for enthusiasts and collectors. A burned one don't have the same collection value, and many times even the same content since you don't have extras or alternative version of the movie. USB or Streaming is just more convenient for mosts.

Still would be nice to see more FLOSS support in this sense. We used to make custom art for our burned CD in the 90s.

I always prefer dedicated physical media for the stuff I really care and/or can afford: people underestimate the value of something you can easily show, gift, play, sell, etc. Digital contents don't have this intrinsic value in our physical world, so I don't think physical media will disappear in the next future.
