  • No. The owner of the media has already been paid in both of those scenarios. It makes zero difference to them whether you're watching the ads.

Adblocking, on the other hand, is actively hurting the owner of the media because they get paid based on how many ads they can serve. If you block the ad, it isn't served, and they don't get paid.

Personally, I definitely think it's piracy. I also still do it.

  • I actually like it a lot ngl.

From the side it looks like the bastard son of a Frogfoot, the backside looks like they stole the tail rudders from an F-18 and strapped them on something F-14 adjacent.

The front is very A-10, just with the engines in a different orientation.

  • Installed, I love all the themes! Thanks!

  • From my understanding, this was extremely overblown. They apparently have a pretty standard privacy policy, and the concerning parts only applied where they legally had to- like China.

Pirate Software has a whole video where he goes through their privacy policy and talks about it. Personally, I trust that more than I trust Steam reviews and randoms on social media.

Frankly, I just kind of assume all Chinese games/devs are going to have privacy concerns and that disregarding your privacy is a requirement for engaging with them.

  • I wouldn’t consider it worthwhile if I didn’t have an Xbox Series S though. If my main gaming device was a PC then I’d stick to being patient and waiting for sales.

    Why?

I do the same thing you do, just on PC. What makes PC different, to you?

  • Yeah, I just did. Works fine.

I didn't try actually recording, but I can't imagine it would be different.

  • I remember in school people would say something loudly- neck check? or redneck check? I'm really not sure- and then slap you on the back of the neck. The assumption was that if you had a sunburned neck it'd hurt. I can't remember why the hell it was done, just that it was.

  • Why would they even bother to shut down the wave pool because of that? Fish the thing out, keep going.

  • Kinda reminds me of a few Sci-Fi settings- Altered Carbon has people that enjoy murdering people, and since people can swap bodies freely that sort of thing is easily done. There's an explicit difference between 'sleeve death' and 'real death', even legally. Killing someone's sleeve- or body- is a crime, but it's not murder anymore. If you actually destroy the lil chip that actually contains the person, that's 'real death'. Man I love that show. S1, at least.

Alternatively, Cyberpunk with it's braindances could cater to an extremely similar audience.

  • I think nothing inside a full priced video game should cost real money.

There's plenty of examples of F2P games that have reasonable monetization in the form of mtx.

  • Is it out now? Are you sure lol

  • I have actually been googling the hell out of this and I still don't know.

  • Yeah, fair. It's a very clickbait-y title.

  • That title is wild. Good video, though. I watched this one before I saw it on Lemmy- I get notifications every six months when Ahoy uploads.

  • Oh, nevermind. You actually linked the search. I just misunderstood lmao. I wasn't trying to prank you.

  • If you remove everything after the & you'll get people on desktop, too. The search= part.

I can preview the link, which considering how the link ends...

  • Oh, thanks, actually. I was very confused trying to figure out what USSC was. My dumbass was thinking United States Soviet Commune lmao.

  • Yeah, but mobile gaming is largely a very different animal. I don't feel that comparing them is helpful at all. They're very different audiences, and very different games. While I'm sure there's some overlap they're very much not interchangeable.

Any major studio releasing a AAA game with the level of microtransactions and blatant money-bait that mobile games regularly get away with would be absolutely annihilated by public outrage.

  • I don't entirely agree with that- I enjoyed some of the 343 games. They're not the same quality as the original trilogy, but I would describe all of them but Halo 5 as 'good'. Not great or amazing, but good.

I would love to see them license the IP out more, though, just so we could see more variety of games. I like Halo but "he kills all the aliens and doesnt afraid of anything" gets a bit old after the fifth time or so.

The only other Halo games are Halo Wars- which personally I enjoyed a lot- and the Spartan Assault twinstick shooter games that I never played.
