  • Part of the reason that Silicon Valley became so big instead of some place like Boston on the east coast is that California has always banned non compete clauses for workers. This allowed for more cross talk for the workers in the area and everyone was better for it.

  • Reading this makes me want to find a Linux distribution that does not use the gnu stuff at all.

  • I just tried this on my iPhone and it worked like a charm.

  • Good luck proving that your data came from meta sources after you paid.

  • You are correct that if you are on thee moon and have a cs-133 atom with you is second will take that many transitions. And if you do the same thing on Earth, a second will take the same number of transitions.

But things get weird when you are on earth and observe a cs-133 atom that is on the moon. Because you are in different reference frames, you are traveling at different speeds and are in different gravity wells time is moving at different rates. This means that a cs atom locally will transition a different number of times in a second from your point of view on Earth vs one you are observing on the moon.

And it would all be reversed if you were on the Moon observing a clock back on the Earth.

They already have to account for this with GPS satellites. They all have atomic clocks on them but they don’t run at the same speed as clocks that are on the ground. The satellites are moving at a great speed and are further from the center of the earth than us, so the software that calculates the distance from your phone to the satellite have to use Einstein’s equations to account for the change in the rate of time.

    Relativity is weird.

  • How about if you have a destination, find me a rest area/restaurant/whatever that is on the route. Not just around somewhere.

  • Except the length of a second is different on the moon because of relativity. So even utc is wrong.

  • Now we have murderers who just spent the last 1000 years reading philosophy books.

  • The tricky part is keeping the carbon in the plants. My grass clippings will decompose back into CO2 if you just dump it in a pile. A better option would be to dehydrate the clippings and bury it in a cave or something.

I also understand that there would be better plants than grass as well.

  • Tell that to my (nonexistent) off-site backup.

  • I’m mad that they did their broken implementation of sending control codes between devices that never works. I have to disable it on everything so that the correct input gets set.

And then they are killing the universal remote industry so there is nothing to replace it with.

  • I think my oven/stove can be connected. I have never tried because I don’t see the need to preheat my oven when I am not home.

  • This is what I do as well. I always have Firefox running and can easily search the extension for whatever password I need and it is just as easy to copy from there as opening another tool.

That being said the iOS app is great for when I am away from my laptop.

  • I mean, if someone moves to the other side of the planet, you won't both be able to see the moon at the same time, but at the end of the day, there is only one moon. We all see the same moon.

  • Honestly this just sounds like periodically refactoring everything to remove cruft can be a good thing. Also, it helps you understand how the existing code works if you change it and not break everything.

  • You are being downvoted but HFCS and honey are almost exactly chemically identical. They have to inspect honey farms to make sure it comes from bees since looking at the final product you can’t tell the difference.

  • I’m American, and honey blend implies to me that it is a mix of different types of honey. Like clover honey and whatnot. Kinda like a Red blend wine is a mix of different wines, not 50% merlot/50% rubbing alcohol or something.

  • I watched Wall-E last weekend. They didn't mention in the Buy-N-Large advertisement that the Morlock worker group was left on earth to starve when the upper class was sent to live on a luxury liner.

  • Yeah, I have that at home but never bothered to set that up when outside the house. This just lets me do whatever while waiting at the doctors office or whatnot.
