  • In terms of Mars

    • Client wants a robot to go to Mars
    • Project is budgeted and sold to send a Mars Rover
    • Work starts and after successful test the robot is shown to customer. Customer states he wants to send a Mechwarriors in a drop ship, not a little Pathfinder.
    • Panic, change requests, money being discussed, rockets are being strapped together with duct tape and the rover is bolted on an old Asimo that is being rebuilt into the smallest Mechwarrior ever the day before launch
    • Mech Asimo lands successfully, stumbles and falls on a rock after three steps
    • Customer disappointed
  • And just before Panama has to cease operation because climate change is drying things up there and soon it's choosing between having drinking water or operating the locks on the canal.

  • They're real. I also encounted one.

  • It just needs some

  • Imagine if Yosemite Sam is the president and the gun is loaded with tax cuts, firing people and tariffs, lots and lots of tariffs.

  • Show them at Tesla stocks. That's their future. Off a cliff.

  • Old sci-fi also has computers with relais, like the computer clicking in Aliens when it's thinking. People giving each other their iPad in Star Trek is still pretty amusing to me. Some books still describe punch cards and tapes in space ships. Hell, in Rebel Moon they were shoveling coal to power their space ship.

  • The only remaining ones that say that are Orbán and Fico, the other useful idiots on Russia's payroll.

  • Normally they should have backup, but places like Texas saved a few bucks on backups and their maintenance so their gas lines went down too. That was in the 2021 power crisis. Deregulations and increasingly weird weather is a bad combination.

  • Until you discover that the gas infrastructure and your home heather need electricity to function. You better have an old fashion gas stove as backup that you can use until gas pressure drops too much. You could get bottles of gas and a camping heater but every year people die because they use these indoors and get CO poisoning so be careful.

  • Part 4: USA falls apart

    Part 5: China profits

  • In the financial crisis in 2008, many countries deployed austerity programs to cut debts and costs. Their economies shrank and some still haven't recovered from that experiment. And DOGE is austerity with a chainsaw, not with a scalpel. It's going to hurt, a lot.

  • In most places, because the economy needs to grow so it stays ahead of its growing loans and debt (overly simplified). To grow, you need more workers and customers. If population doesn't grow, and you don't have immigrants to do the producing and buying instead, things stagnate, very lower interest rates that the system can't really handle, government keeping the economy together with duct tape, general welfare not doing great what leads to even less population growth. But every place is a bit different and its own challenges of course.

  • A lot were still in denial, figuring there was still a way to reason this out, until this meeting.

  • It certainly was a kick to the European diplomatic nuts and removed any doubt if reasonable negotiation is possible. Niet l now it's clear on what they're dealing with for the war, NATO and trade.

  • "It's already in the demo you guys just did so why do you need weeks to make it?"

  • Yes, but many people need a small quick win first or they give up completely.

  • Because of this, there is financial advice to pay back the smallest loan first and work your way up to the bigger ones. It doesn't make any sense financially, but helps with motivation.

  • Because there's always a region too far for helicopters and no landing strip for regular planes. In this twilight zone, weird things are invented.
