  • What you have here is another case of Linux users jumping to defend the only things they have to defend, even if it’s absolute shit.

Funny how OP is using libreoffice on Windows though, what's there Linux-related to defend? Did a Linux user hurt you? If anything this is another opportunity for some snarky comment about Windows being shit and crashing for no reason since the 1990s.

  • Are you implying that the average user doesn't know how to install an app? My 80 yo parents do that on their samsung tablet.

No need to trust any higher authorities, whatever that means

  • Is that your biggest concern about a tech company? Id be happy for marketing departments to he shut down and the money redirected to make better/cheaper products.

While Google sucks now and has for a while, in their early days they have demonstrated that marketing is not all it takes to make innovative, successful products.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Apple obsession with marketing has created fanboys that spend the night queuing up to be the first to get the latest iPhone, and that don't question the technology or ethics (or anything) behind the flashing toy that they crave. Good for the executives and the shareholder but as a customer?

  • Can't speak for Japan but for Italy an easy way to deal with shrinking population is by allowing more immigration. The one thing the current government is against, and the populace has been conditioned to believe is the main problem causing all sort of issues. Particularly by facilitating an influx of skilled workers, you have from day one taxpayers that can fund your pensions, and that didn't cost you a euro for the first 18 years orbso of their lives (education, health care etc). Of course it's not that trivial as first they should create an attractive job market that makes skilled workers want to go there in the first place but other countries have successfully done that. I'm not counting on this to happen, just saying that it's an option

  • I don't use voice control since I'm against all cloud based services but am definitely interested and waiting for a good local option, paired with some decent devices that I can disseminate around the house.

I have been using ha for a very long time but am the opposite, haven't gone down the rabbit hole and have only half a dozen automations. With the exception of living room lights that come on 39 minutes before sunset, I don't control lights. I have absolutely no problem using a switch as I enter a room, and see no point overcomplicating things in trying to guess what should happen when someone enters a room.

Being able to look for a recipe, set a timer, choose a youtube video, a song or a playlist while I am kneading dough and my hands are caked? Id love voice control while I'm in the kitchen and can't touch a phone without having to clean wash and dry my hands

  • Fair enough. I guess my point is that a modern phone should have both Bluetooth AND a 3.5mm jack.

  • A 3.5mm jack costs fractions of a cent, and I don't have to carry around a $10 dollar adapter to solve an artificial problem.

Bluetooth sucks badly, and the wide array of devices on the market have batteries that need to be charged. I'll stick with the best option if i can thanks, 3.5mm jack.

  • It comes with a 3.5mm audio output for starters.

  • Southern Italy is better at pizza, we all agree atelier all that's where pizza comes from. Florence is not in the south however, you might have had a good pizza, you can eat very good pizza everywhere in Italy. That said general consensus is Naples is where you want to go for the good good shit.

  • Been hearing that since the 90s, but win NT is actually pretty good, it just works. Nah thanks, I'm no longer a sysadmin and haven't tried Windows past 2000 server I think, but unless you are stuck with running Windows specific stuff (it was sql server for me at the time), and assuming you have a say in the company/project you work on, why bother?

  • Zona a Traffico Limitato - buy I like the way you made the acronym work in english :)

Edit: Limited traffic area, typically only residents, emergency services, deliveries etc.

  • Adding a bullion cube of beef or chicken flavor isn't expensive, and after that's applied, you're pretty much at parity with real meat as far as flavor, often for less expense than using real meat.

    A real foodie eh?

  • I hadn't though about traditional artists. I'll give you that, though most of us don't think about a static model posing while an artist is sculpting or painting them.

Let's be honest photography can stand on its legs without models. And as for fashion, you guessed it right not really into it, but most importantly it adds to the same question we keep asking in this thread, who benefits from this besides Mr versace and a couple other assholes? Really what do they "add"?

  • I'll bite.. what do models add?

  • Replacing influencers with ai is not going to fix anything for that we should dismantle social media and have a serious talk all 8 billion of us, but it's not going to make anything worse either, it is already custom tailored indoctrination by brands and a handful of assholes are making stupid amounts of money. I'm not going to cry if that money shifts to different hands.

Yes artists come up often in this kind of discussions, the ones that are losing their job to ai never had one in the first place, same as influencers. What are we talking about, Jim that makes you a custom logo and business cards for your business?

The guy that gets a commission from the newly opened local microbrewery for graffiti-ing their walls is hardly losing any work to ai. If anything they could integrate ai in their creative process.

  • Human influences have always given me dystopian vibes. And they were just making some executives and themselves rich, is not such a big loss..

  • I don't see how this is giving up though. Been doing this to close to two decades in one form of another and I wouldn't consider any other way. Except kodi instead of plexus here.

  • Then you missed the point of this conversation
