  • No, statements. I've opined on multiple things he's said here in response to you in this thread. Your replies seem very odd at this point as it almost seems like you're responding to a discussion that isn't even happening.

  • I've been doing this off Windows PCs for over a decade now. I personally think professional grade servers are way overkill for this and will suck up a ton of energy for little benefit compared to consumer grade hardware.

Realistically you're going to maybe be serving between a couple and couple dozen people at most, charging little to nothing for access, and hosting data that isn't critical for anything, so having perfect uptime and loads of redundancy isn't necessary.

In my experience, what is critical is setting everything up on an OS designed for this kind of work (which isn't Windows) as that's what's caused me grief over the years and not anything to do with the hardware itself. I'm actually planning on rebuilding everything (leaning more toward doing little more than upgrading my OS, CPU, and RAM on hardware from 2018) and just posted about this a few days ago.

Even a lightweight, micro office PC or laptop with a mobile processor would work fine for this power wise, but lacks the ports and HDD mounting space to do the job well.

  • I don't think the article addressed it directly, but it seems like it's improved due to being lighter weight with more torque and offset by not needing axles or gearing since it can be mounted in the wheel. It says they weigh 40kg, which isn't too bad compared to axles and gearboxes in my experience with ICE vehicles.

I'm curious how this holds up to things like potholes and minor fender benders if it's integrated in the wheel. Imagine hitting a huge pothole or a curb and not only having to replace a wheel, control arms, hub, ball joints, etc but also an entire electric motor.

  • I didn't say anything of his qualifications or history. I said I think his statements and future plans sound like more of the same ineffective lip service and rightward drift.

  • I think most people like it because it's similar to professional sports but with fewer primadonnas and marketing. I think they think it's more "pure."

  • Why the absolute about-face from you on the DNC over the last couple weeks?

Why are so many people stuck on a single comment he made during the DNC chair campaign when he was asked if he'd take donations from billionaires?

They're not stuck on this single comment. They're seeing the trend from the DNC over the last few decades and seeing more of the same in his statement.

Do you legitimately think he'd have won the chair election by answering no?

And what does that tell you about where their allegiance lies? I can't believe you think this comment helps your argument.

  • This may be cynical but this just sounds like he wants to make people fall in line and adopt more Texas style right-wing politics.

The "we have to regain their trust" line could be copy and pasted from just about every corporate non-apology in existence. This instills little hope in me for the future of the Democratic party.

  • Is there supposed to be an article attached to the post?

  • As if voter turnout is the end-all-be-all metric for determining what people want. The DNC got up to quite a bit of fuckery in both 2016 and 2024. They had no issue sidelining Bernie from debates and news coverage, creating super delegates, and just plainly putting their thumb on the scales. In 2024, we didn't even get a primary because old Joe went back on his "one term" promise and ran against every sane person's advice, dropped out, and then a new equally unappealing candidate was hand picked for us. Who gives a shit what most centrists want when it's clear that all they're doing is choosing the "safe bet." It's no different from the person whose favorite music is whatever they're currently playing on the radio. These people aren't choosing anything. They're just doing what they're told.

Sitting out does absolutely nothing to advance progressive causes inside or outside of the party.

So does losing election after election because the DNC keeps backing the absolute worst candidates.

  • If the 2028 election was happening tomorrow I think the Democrats would lose again.

Absolutely. They'd probably try to court Mitt Romney to run under their ticket.

  • Democrats have shown time and time again that they don't give a shit what voters think which is why they keep losing elections. Biden and Harris wouldn't even turn their back on Netanyahu even when it meant Trump would get reelected as all tbe polling showed. Progressives don't bother with it because they'll be ignored either way and you can only be ignored so many times before giving up on them listening. Blaming the voters for the actions of the party is just giving them cover for their ineptitude. Voters don't decide their policy.

At this point they do little else than act as controlled opposition for the Republican party, so this is just our reality for the foreseeable future. Maybe if the leadership gets ousted, we'll have a chance but it looks more like a new party will need to be formed and the Democrats go the way of the Whigs.

  • I think this is what I'm leaning towards as I have very briefly played around with Proxmox on an Optiplex micro and was impressed with it.

After some more research I realized that TrueNAS probably won't work as I have drives of various sizes pooled together so maybe UnRAID, OMV, or something else. Do you know if Proxmox's native NAS can handle that or does it also require you to have multiples of the same drive?
