I like this mix better than the original. The one thing I never liked about this song was the guitar "siren" present from the opening -- this remix minimizes that but keeps it around.
Just to play cat's advocate: if humans don't think the table is clean when they sit down to eat, they are welcome to wipe it down, to add placemats, or to cover the table between meals. All of these are minor inconveniences compared to the unrealistic expectation of denying cats access to one of the room's main furnishings when it is not in use.
My favorite are the satanic conspiracy ones. Like where there's literally a satan who is directing their devils and worshippers to lead people to commit sins.
My next favorite are the ones that are just telling people to believe in the christian god and to follow the christian moral code and that they will suffer eternally if they don't. These are occasionally moving.
The ones I dislike are the rest, which are mostly promoting bigotry against other religions or that have extremist views like you mention.
btw if you haven't seen it, check out the "Dark Dungeons" short film; it was made by some independent filmmakers who got Chick's permission to adapt one of the tracts. They play it (mostly) straight with just the right touches of satire, and it comes off beautifully:
because with cats it’s always “what’s in it for me?”
My guess is that it's a resource-sharing thing.
To a cat, it makes sense that you shoo the cat off the table. Clearly you may want to use the table if you are there, so the cat should make way when you are around.
To a cat, it makes NO sense that you want the cat to NEVER use the table. If you're not using it right now, why shouldn't the cat use it?
So, I think:
A human believes that because they obtained an item, they have a right to forbid a cat from ever using it.
But a cat believes that they have the right to use any item in the house that is not currently being used by the human.
I gotta say, it' s not obvious that the human is right...
It’s odd the way these articles talk about dictatorship taking hold in the US
Yeah, there are a lot of valuable lessons to be learned by studying the Roman Republic and Empire. This article does none of that, it just lists a bunch of parallels. It's in the same genre as "12 reasons why Joe Biden was the antichrist!"
I'm continually disappointed in The Atlantic. At one time it would have published a thoughtful essay on the topic. Instead this article just normalizes the idea that democracy in the US is doomed to fall.
I'm subscribed to 81 different meme communities here on Lemmy, yet I missed the fact that "AI-generated action figures were all over social media" til now. Yet another reason I love the fediverse.
Wow, interesting video, I like their struts and poses, and I really felt it when the Bride in White tripped. If you have any more like this, you should post them!
Goths, New Wavers, Rockers, Preppies, and I think I even saw a Teddy Boy there, all hitting the club in the 80s. I'd seen bits of this before, but this was the first time I watched it all the way through. Best video I've ever seen in my life. It's low-quality filming and every once in a while I felt like I should be cringing but everyone is having so much fun and is so sincere that respect is due.
According to the poster's blog writeup, this was a souvenir made by the venue owners, which is why there's a slow start and weird interlude mid-video with a local celebrity. Apparently this was filmed on a Sunday so as not to disturb the regular nights. There's an obvious paradox to filming in a nightclub: for anything to be visible you need bright lights and cameras, which of course kills the mood. But credit to the clubgoers (who apparently were all invited regulars) they still get into it.
interviews with some of the clubgoers where they talk about what they do for a living, how they do their hair, where they get their clothes, etc https://youtu.be/A9sMZ_5NjM8?t=4233
I don't think I really "got" Bowie til I saw these people feeling Life on Mars at the end, just a couple hours before they had to get up and go back to work. Notably, this took place in a town/city called Batley which is apparently an old industrial town in the middle of a traditional farming area -- if you're from the US, I'm thinking it's like one of the smaller cities in Illinois or Ohio. i.e. they're just regular kids, and the youtube comments and the blog writeup comments are full of people saying who they were in the video or who they knew in it or where they went that was just like it.
This was all way before my time, but what's interesting is the looks are still interesting (most of the kids say they went to second-hand shops, and at least two of them said they made clothes out of old bedsheets!) and the music is still being played in clubs and online.
I like this song because it quotes from the classic "Conscience of a Hacker" from 1986 (!) That's kind of cringe now... in fact it was kind of cringe even when I came across it a decade or two later but... I like where it's coming from, you know?
Solid. Seems like it shouldn't work, but the singer's voice carries it. Looks like the whole album has a theme/story, but I'll need to listen to it again to catch it.
Why is Jesus grabbing that guy's neck with one hand, and his own crotch with the other?
