Hi, I'm also Terencio on mastodon.social and Sergio on lemmy.world.

  • I missed the original comment, but surprised that someone was gatekeeping this album if any. It's definitely goth-y possibly to the point of being overwrought. I like the guy's voice but preferred the instrumental, I kinda wish he'd take a more dark-ambient approach, maybe with briefer verses recited instead of sung.

  • great song, powerful lyrics

Pounding in my headBeen down here for a minuteAnd I’m making up for losing timeI’ve been searching forA mutual self-destructionAnd I’m thinkingThat you could be minePrimitive chopOn the butcher’s blockFor all the conquests you have madeIt’s a terrible shameYou’ll find it in the next lifeTerrible shameYou’ll find it in the next

Obliterate meOn the CasioI’m fighting for my lifeIn the barrio ...

Spirit of the prophecyI’m tearin’ down the effigyA tiny little angry godI’m searchin’ for the liminalThe stress is gettin’ criminalThe dollar trends above the lawHypocricy is everywhereI’m bailin’ out the billionaireI’m tired of the same old songIt’s a beautiful dayTo bring down the power linesBeautiful dayTo bring down the power

Obliterate meOn the CasioI’m fighting to surviveIn the barrio ...

And when it all falls apartIt’s up to youTo pick up the pieces

Obliterate meOn the CasioI’m fighting to surviveIn the barrio ...

And when it all falls apartIt’s up to youTo pick it back up

  • interesting lyrics.... I could tell something was going on there, just wasn't sure what:

“This track, in a way, defines the album; perhaps that’s why we named the entire release after it,” they note. “A pulsating rhythm section, blurred guitars, and some sound walls, vocals transitioning from subtle and calm tones to aggressive and shouted ones—you can hear all this on our album.”

Lyrically, the song tells how ultra-right politicians manipulate society by ‘thawing’ various corpses, demons, phantoms, or nightmares from the past. “It’s nothing more than sowing demagoguery and feeding on the simplest human feelings, thereby instilling fear to achieve the best election results. This track is a middle finger directed at nationalists and xenophobes.”

  • Hard to tell. Personally I think getting involved at your state/local level is key, I keep an eye on the following:

As far as national-level social media, take your pick. Even just within 50501 there are several venues (r$ddit, bluesky, here, etc.) but those are mostly just for spreading information.

  • I'm pretty sure he was kidding about the elves. In the article he says:

"I work for three hours, and then I get stumped, and I'm not making progress. So I quit, and I go and work in the tunnel. It takes me an hour or so to dig four inches and put in the 4-by-4s. ... Then I go back up and work some more."

It's a common technique when dealing with a difficult research/creative problem.

    • gain a good understanding of the problem (even if you're stuck on how to solve it)
    • go do something unrelated work (preferrably physical, like gardening or housework or... working on your basement apparently.)

I think it gives your subconscious a chance to work on the problem without your conscious mind interfering.

  • here are some ways to find communities:

    also:

Most are currently active (except for the ones with a * which were less active last I checked) Sometimes politics, tech or memes sneak in but they're not the focus.

  • Simple but effective video, good song to throw in the mix.

  • Great song, kind of punk lyrics with retro synth and vocal styles.

  • Here you go. I'd consider these beginner-friendly because they're not focused on tech or politics.

  • I guess to revive a community:

    • find something to post on a regular basis. e.g. on !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world I post a weekly announcement about the upcoming Monsterdon movie viewing (with links and background info); LaurenceWolse posts 2-3 movie overviews a week, and there we have the basis for a moderately active sub.
    • find another couple of people to help you out by posting regularly
    • keep posting on this community's weekly thread and getting advice/inspiration from other posters here
  • I wouldn't stress about it. Communities don't have to be active all the time. When I remember the Dunder Mifflin (fandom for tv show The Office) sub back on r$ddit, it was always active, but it was the same limited number of arguments and jokes and catch-phrases over and over. It was kinda amusing, but also kinda braindead. Why not just wait until there's a new tour or album or other news?

I had a similar experience with !sumo@lemmy.world. The Japanese tournaments only happen every 2 months, so it's dormant now... instead of trying to "force" discussion, I'm just waiting for a couple more weeks where it'll be back to daily posting for the 15-day tournament. If I came across some awesome news or media I might post it but otherwise I'm not going to stress it.

  • I suggest you advertise this in !fedigrow@lemm.ee -- there are a fair number of people there interested in "growing" lemmy who might be interested.

  • fwiw this is when you find out who's on your side (i.e. who speak up during bad times) and who's not (i.e. who ignore the situation or support the people in power.)

  • aw, be nice. OP might be a kid, might not have a lot of money for a vet, might not realize that cats can be in a fair amount of pain before showing it, etc.
