  • tbh I was more like "Welp.. need to wait outside then, I guess."

It was just a small fire because some dickhead burned a backpack on the basement for whatever reason. Not much smoke or anything.

Today it's more like a funny story you tell friends or when dating. One might even say I played through the fire and flames. Ü

  • Something similar happened to me as well. Though I didn't sit in the bathtub but was playing on my PC and didn't hear anyone knocking because of the headphones. No fireman entered my apartment but I decided to take a look what smelled so funny and why there are so many blinking lights.

  • If she's taking this long you're probably doing it wrong.

  • Best rule even within the Fallout franchise. That's why it's a great scene.

  • The Youtube algorithm just showed me a video about that the other day. I didn't even know that they originally had nothing to do with being right-wing fascists.

  • Ah I see, you're a person of culture as well.

  • How they can still be in business is beyond me.

  • But you're on Lemmy now. Shush, go outside!

/s if it wasn't obvious enough

  • Nice. I'd appreciate some feedback, if you like. Currently in the middle of switching to EndeavourOS as a Arch noob. Am I allowed so say "I use arch btw" now?

  • RGB isn't really the issue for me. At least not when using icue. I need it to control my AIO / fans / temps

  • I think I didn't buy a Windows license ever. Got Win 7 free from my college and always could upgrade for free to the next version. I never used MS Office, mostly did use the Google suite. Games were the only thing that kept me, especially since I got more privacy continuous over the past few years.

I'm currently dual booting Win 11 and Linux mint as a test phase. Actually just running windows for the proprietary phone client I need for work. Otherwise I'm newly exclusively using LM right now. Though I might make the switch to EndeavourOS for it's rolling release approach and AUR.

Only thing I really hate is that there are some proprietary software like ICUE, L-Connect a proper scanning software for my printer including OCR (there is a version for Linux but it doesn't include OCR) or shitty driver support for my graphics card. But none of those are issues coming from Linux itself but rather from the lack of support from the developers. Also, I love DLSS and Ray tracing but seriously.. fuck Nvidia.

  • So basically what you're saying is we're all majorly fucked and not in a good way. Might as we just get the money out of my retirement fund to have some fun with it while it lasts.

  • not sure if shit post or metal memes.

  • Now we only need a donkey and some minor assembly and we got the "town musicians of Bremen".

  • I kid you not. A few years back when vortex mod compilations weren't a thing and you had to install every mod by itself and make sure it works with other mods I ended up downloading, installing and tweaking mods for about a week until it looked and felt like I wanted. Then I never played the game. This happened more than once.

I regularly find myself in adhd memes but according to the doc I don't meet the point required to be diagnosed with ad(h)d, so I just try to somehow work.

  • I work in IT so you might think I might be more into the topic and thus more careful with my data. There are a lot of colleagues of mine that don't care one bit. Some even jokingly call me paranoid.

Sure, I use GrapheneOS, a de-googled Android OS, made the switch from Gmail to Tuta (formerly tutanota), a privacy ans security focused mail provider and use my own domain for mailing.

Then there are some other measurements in place like AdGuard and Pihole to block ads and trackers. I think that's the bare minimum, especially if you're working in IT. It doesn't cost much, the setup is straight forward and the benefits are huge. I haven't had any ads in my network for years.

I'm currently switching from windows to Linux as daily driver. There are some issues with getting some games to run, but as soon as they do I'm switching for good.

There are some easy thing one can do, even without any expertise in IT. There are even things you can do that aren't finicky (like linux troubleshooting). People are just way to comfortable.

Maybe they should watch the documentary about Edward Snowden, Citizenfour. That might change their mind.

  • The free Internet if you give use your data is already a thing. I saw an ad in germany where you get unlimited free internet access (can't remember if it was a data plan for phones or cable / fibre service) if you use their "payment partner" for your usual payments like rent, loans and salary. So they basically can see your daily payments and will use and sell this data im exchange for "free" Internet access.

The company and its investors and corporation lead to a weird network of people and a corp in dubai. It's all quite shady really.

  • No. It's a system app. Look for "DeviceLockController" or "com.android.devicelockcontroller"

  • I don't think that necessarily helps. I'm running GrapheneOS and "DeviceLockController" is installed there as well. From what I read, it's because it's part of AOSP.

I did take all permissions and from the system logs it reads that this app never has been used or tried to send anything to begin with.
