    I’m part of a big group now that is in a pool doctors all over the US can check to see if they can find a match for people, because a friend of mine died from leukemia a long time ago. They couldn’t find a match for him, but maybe I can match with someone else someday.

    You speak of mental health days in a derogatory way, as if you find the very idea that people should take care of their mental as well as physical health offensive, for reasons I don’t understand.

    I’m saying that your mocking statement about taking days off for such things should in fact be something we do, and something we should find acceptable to do.

  • I absolutely guarantee you one of those things is not like the others. Period pain can be truly debilitating, especially for a person with endometriosis. It is totally worth time off.

    Also, I find your insinuation that women take time off for ‘low mood’ and ‘being irritable’ frequently—as opposed to men—rather sexist and offensive, not to mention not reflective of reality.

    However, I do like how you inadvertently stumbled into the idea that we should all have more sick days and mental health should be included in the definition of ‘health’. Taking time off for a mental ‘breather’ should be normalized in our society. I also think higher-mental-stress jobs like 911 dispatcher should get more mental health off-time.

  • Okay so, aside from the fact that, as another person pointed out, you can wash the eggs, that ‘poop and stuff’ includes a sort of exterior membrane that keeps the eggs fresh even when left out of the fridge.

    Commercial washing removes that membrane, which is why those store-bought eggs go bad faster.

  • Sadly it’s not that surprising.

    On a superficial level, what you have is a military vessel captained by a white human male that goes around saving the poor savage primitive and less enlightened cultures. The captain even basically does whatever he wants, and any force he uses is accepted, if not outright lauded. That’s basically everything white nationalists dream of.

    And it doesn’t help that some of the aggressor cultures like the Klingons have darker skin and are shown (again, from a superficial viewpoint) as unreasonably violent with a culture that espouses it.

    Remember, these are the same geniuses that think Starship Troopers wasn’t a biting parody and that Rage Against The Machine was espousing far right ideals. Media literacy and paying attention to anything more than superficial stuff is not really their forte.

  • The local government sees $$$ (or gets out-and-out bribed) and so they sign off on it. After all, why should they care if some plebeians have their electric bill go up?

    To be fair, several local governments have shot these down. One in Arizona just voted 7-0 to not let one in. But they’re so sneaky and so free with money a lot of governments just let them slide in without residents even knowing.
