  • Wow. Reading up on the school on Wikipedia, DeSantis turned it into a dumpster fire.

    In early 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis overhauled the college's board of trustees, appointing six new members including Christopher Rufo, Matthew Spalding, Charles R. Kesler, Mark Bauerlein, Debra Jenks, and Eddie Speir. Of those, the first four are well-known conservative activists who appear to live outside Florida.

    Turnover has been terrible:

    By mid-July 2023, over a third of the existing faculty had left the college, many choosing to resign or take a leave of absence as a direct result of the conservative takeover.

    And of course the president is way overpaid:

    In October 2023, when formally announced as New College's new president, Corcoran's total annual compensation of over $1 million drew scrutiny from media and experts in academic and executive compensation, significantly in excess of expected pay for the president of a public university with a small student body population.

    That is about how much the president of the University of Washington makes which has 52k students. There are a whopping 689 students at the New College. Tuition is $7000/yr. A massive chunk of a student's tuition ($1450) goes to paying one conservative fuck head.

    They asked for $400 million to transform the school into a conservative shithole. Really fiscally responsible.

You'd think that would disqualify him from teaching but considering nobody wants to teach in Oklahoma because they pay nothing, it should not be too surprising.

  • Same happens with diabetic people with low blood sugar. In fact, a case like that led to the Graham ruling where a guy was having an insulin reaction so he went into a store to buy orange juice. He saw that the line was too long so he left the store and went back to his friend's car. A nearby officer thought he seemed a bit off and decided to investigate. Obviously a diabetic with low blood sugar is going to have some problems answering questions and following orders so he was handcuffed and roughed up. That led the Supreme Court to rule on reasonable use of force. Now courts would look at whether a reasonable officer would make a similar decision to use force. The previous test was whether the use of force was malicious which was an even worse test. Unfortunately despite the new test, the court did not find for Graham.

Then people flocked to other apps because the old ones were shit. Then Match bought those too and made them shitty too worth swiping and ads. There have been no stellar new apps so people are avoiding them. Eventually there will be a cool new dating app that people will flock to that Match will buy and not learn anything from the catalogue of apps their strategy has killed and they will make that one shitty too.

  • They are not completely distinct at the moment but to say that Hamas represents Gazans would be incorrect. Hamas win about a third of the vote in 2006 but that was the most so they got control of the government but have not had an election since. Many in the Israeli government were happy with the result because it weakened the PLO and therefore calls for a two state solution. Hell, Israel funded Hamas' startup back in the 80s for exactly that purpose.

  • Considering I am reading this post after just reading about another where a serial child rapist was let go after a 15 year old had called 911 saying he had drugged her and threatened to kill her. They found her drugged and shirtless in the middle of the street where she had told them he was filming the abuse he was doing. Many of the victims appeared to be 12 but the prosecutor wanted to let him go until they could verify the age of the kids in the videos. One of the victims killed him after his release. Good job, prosecutor. They knew the age of the girl who called 911.
