  • It keeps a certain politician out of jail.

  • Serious answer: could be drugs/alcohol but he looks like he could be older and dementia is a possibility.

  • It’s always the ones you’d most suspect.

  • Had a previous car that was manual. Then I bought a car with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) and it’s such a nuisance because it is always unpredictable when it will shift. So you go to pass someone, step on the gas and sometimes it takes off and other times it fiddles with shifting for a second before giving you any power. Can also be a real pain in stop and go traffic because it will have unpredictable amounts of power when starting from a stop. I’ve had this vehicle since 2017 and it’s always been this way. I don’t miss having to shift constantly but I do miss having a reliable amount of power when I’m in a certain gear - that’s what is so nice about a manual transmission. You feel more in control of the car. That said, my daily driver now is electric with no transmission and that is the best of all.

  • MSNBC Recap of the situation.

Basically Musk attacked Trump on Twitter over the big bill. It’s been escalating rapidly with Musk insinuating Trump should be impeached and threatening to start a “centrist” political party and Trump threatening Elon’s government contracts.

  • Maybe. Or the propaganda will have been so successful that nobody will discuss climate change because that’s just the way things are.

  • I think the other user may be mixing up events in their head. I haven’t seen anything about Proton’s donations but the Proton CEO has publicly made statements that suggested he might be pro-Trump.

Here is a really in depth analysis of his comments that concludes he may not actually be pro-MAGA.

  • Neurotypical here and yeah my brain often works this way and I believe it does for many others. What’s missing in this vignette are social skills from both parties.

Abruptly shifting topics like that often works better in a conversation with some sort of segue or acknowledgment of the shift: “This is off of that topic but I have a random question.”

The second party could reasonably be confused but when the thought process was explained to them they could have just accepted it and moved on without being denigrating.

So they both just need better social skills is all that I see.

  • I get what you’re saying but people like Ben Shapiro, Candice Owens, etc have proven themselves to be shitstain propagandists many years ago. Regularly consuming propaganda, even if you know what it is, is not healthy and it does affect you.

  • If I had to guess, there are probably some valuable natural resources under the ice that are going to become more accessible with global warming. It’s a resource grab. Same thing as trying to get Ukraine’s minerals.

Edit: Yep I should have searched before I replied.

  • I think that’s the artist showing his hand making the motion of cutting across the throat like people often do to say “stop doing that immediately.”

  • First thought: This is an Onion article.

Second thought: Oh no. This is a distraction from something terrible the press isn’t covering.

  • Moreover, Tails 6.15 removes firmware blobs for Broadcom’s aging BCM4301 and BCM4306 Wi-Fi chipsets. The project believes machines carrying those radios are already too old to boot current Tails images; nevertheless, users who see their wireless interface disappear are encouraged to report back.

  • I’m a parent and I massively struggle with this. I am trying to be completely open and honest in age appropriate way but it’s really hard to do that without it becoming a conversation about how we are all deeply, deeply in for a bad time.

  • I’m using an RTX 5800 with Nobara and although I can game fine I get multiple graphical bugs in the desktop (parts of windows not fully rendering, flashing artifacts when moving windows, and aliasing artifacts around fonts (yes I’m running the correct resolution). So Ulrich is right, it’s absolutely a problem even on newer hardware too.

  • It’s easy until it’s not. I’ve got a decent gaming rig and have been running Linux on it since I built it a couple of months ago. Once an update completely broke my sound but the next one fixed it. Otherwise it’s been fine.

On the other hand I set up a Raspberry Pi to be a print server and have been troubleshooting it since Christmas. It will print the first job just fine but subsequent jobs are stuck in the queue until I reboot. I’ve googled endlessly, tried everything I can think of and it just won’t work unless I constantly reboot. Same printer worked flawlessly in Windows 10 for years before I set up the Pi.

So, yeah. YMMV is the problem with Linux.

  • Language isn’t always about logic. Discussing things in terms of male/female is fine in many contexts but is often done when discussing science or medical topics. Ex: the male pelvis has a different, narrower shape than the female pelvis. It’s also used in situations where people are deliberately ‘othering’ people. Watch any police bodycam footage and you’ll see that cops frequently say “male/female” when discussing non-police individuals.

In daily life, most people use men/women for non-scientific discourse. The women’s restroom. A group of men at the restaurant. Etc.

But here’s the thing. Male/female are used for any species (a male beetle), but man/woman are only used for humans.

Assholes like Tate push a twist in this dynamic so that men are called men but women are called females because it can be dehumanizing to women. When you say female you could be talking about an insect, but a man is human. It’s a succinct example of their philosophy. That’s why people consider it derogatory.
