  • Several years ago, I found a 3.5" floppy in an old desk, so I wrote "(My company's product) Production backup - DO NOT LOSE" on the label, and then left it on the floor in a main hallway of our office.

In my mind, it hopefully made a few people chuckle, but my real dream was that someone picked it up and tried to return it to the development team.

  • The linked article in this post is from a pretty sketchy biased site, and you're right that they are using inflammatory language rather than accurate language. I'm no expert, but it sounds FB may have had a point blocking this account. I hate Facebook, but not because of this.

  • People are downvoting you, but you're correct. I don't work a particularly sensitive or interesting tech job, but we've had 2 candidates in the last year who were faking who/where they were. One had other people in the room feeding them answers. I'd expect weirdness in remote interviews as companies figure out how to navigate this.

  • I think you misread that. This poster's experience isn't from 2016. They installed a program called "Outlook 2016" recently.

  • heh. This reminds me of electric cars. I've been happily driving one for 9 years.

Lots of people online and in person tell me "Electric cars aren't there yet. They won't work." Well, you must be correct then. I just handed down my first EV to my kid and bought a second one.

  • Agreed.

    My grandparents: Loudly racist

    My parents: Quietly racist

Me: Thinking brain logical, but unconscious bias

My kids: Man, my parent is racist.

Good thinking, kid. Get better than me.

  • Because we'd rather eat something else.

  • That happens a lot to Google products.

  • Some people get a little success and think that that justifies being a condescending and cruel alleged expert on everything in the world, free from consequences.

See: The creator of Dilbert, Elon Musk, Shia LaBeauf, Andrew Tate, etc.

  • Have you seen Swiss Army Man? Jesus, what a movie.

  • SmartTube is back up this morning after an update.

  • This reminds me that every night I set the alarm on the alarm clock next to my bed. I bought this alarm clock in 1991 in a Caldor store for less than $10. It has a little light bulb in it that I've changed 3 times.

    33 years. Not bad.

  • t wasn’t exactly rape either. She wanted him to do what he did. And age wasn’t completely clear.

What a fucking gross thing to say. A 21 year old traveled to another country to have sex with a 12 year old. No.

  • I uninstalled gboard yesterday. So frustrating how bad it is. a) My fingers definitely didn't touch those letters. b) you're not even giving me suggestions of things I actually could have swiped. c) Those aren't fucking words.

iOS keyboard isn't better, but it also isn't worse.

  • iMessage is not as good as Google Messages, tbh. It's the one thing I miss after switching from Android. I miss having access to my messages in a browser and any device.

The only people that Google Messages isn't better for is iMessage users, and that's because iMessage cripples it on purpose. It's shitty.

  • Yes. For sure. People downvote you, but you are correct.

I switched from Google after talking to a data engineer who was lamenting how little data he could get from iPhone users compared to Google. Google gave him everything. I work for a company that buys advertising data from Google. We don't from Apple.

Maybe they are both bad, but it's not nearly equivalent.

  • Interesting. I'm running it on a Celeron N4020 with 4GB RAM right now. This system was allegedly shitty in 2019.

  • I replaced my Chromebook with Elementary OS. On it's face, it's a lightweight, web browsing OS with a limited "App Center" of approved apps (similar to ChromeOS), but underneath, it is a Debian-based distro that you can do anything you want with.

  • This just in: Google suddently discontinues support for popular and profitable ad blocker blocker blocker blocker, because literally all they know how to do is kill things that work.
