  • Are you aware that lists of relay IPs exist, and are used to block access to some sites? I learned the hard way (but that was before Snowflake existed, I don't know if it's the case here)

  • Why? This way it doesn't give you false expectations of privacy.

Of course it doesn't prevent the other side from running a modded client that doesn't delete, but at least it's obvious that disappearing messages are something that requires both sides to be on board

  • Put the sim in a dumbphone and share internet to smartphone over wifi or bluetooth when needed

  • Jami is a mess, when i tried it first it starting calling as it were to receive a phone call. The second time i tried it on 3 devices, out of which 2 could contact each other lol. My last attempt was when I needed to send a few strings from a (internet connected) VM to its host machine*, installed Jami on both and the 2 instances couldn't talk to each other. Joke of a program, really.

    • i know i could do it much easier
  • Cwtch is in the same space

  • I host one but the more I analyze privacy implications the worse it looks.

Only you and maybe 10 other people will connect to that server's IP, port 5222. This makes it very easy to track your group by telco operators and people who have access to their logs.

Even if you use a VPN or Tor at all times, most of your other users likely don't.

And the domain is registered to someone's name too, although I know this can be worked around.

  • Oh that is great news, but I still have to see one of these services. Some have TOTP but SMS is still required to create an account

  • So it works now! Good job

  • It's the one in the middle

  • Have you checked if statement-based replication works from mysql to mariadb?

  • I must be a less experienced traveler, never had a cleaning fee or a deposit.

With chores: I'm used to cleaning up after myself, I don't have servants at home and I feel weird at a hotel, not being able to do basic stuff such as washing a shirt, making myself something simple to eat or sweeping the floor if I spill something. And the experience of random people visiting my room when I'm not there and rearranging my stuff to clean up always makes me feel weird.

  • That's crazy expensive compared to an airbnb though

  • Not my experience, the last time I had to use my provider's real SIM SMS service was when registering with a local taxi hail app.

  • Cheogram gives you an US number AFAIK, which is useless when signing up to many services that require a local one.

  • The article is about an EU incident, but something similar happened recently in the US.

The article also mentioned names of 2 websites which anyone could use. IDK about you, in my country there's no such thing as a burner because of ID requirements and using services like this, paid with monero, is the only way to create an account privately without resorting to criminal activity such as using fake IDs.

  • War against privacy continues...

  • If you click on the channel name and go to a list of its videos, there's a feed icon in the top bar. Touch it.

  • Do you think they would regulate it in our favor or shut down the few apps that work without play services for being insecure?
