  • Not necessarily unlikely given this show's more unique nature, but it's not uncommon for character types like him to not really deviate much from this behaviour. I could be totally wrong though.

  • Yeah that could work, but they'd have to change his entire character type for that. I've been burned with that before (Zenitsu from Demon Slayer).

  • Af en toe lijkt me prima, maar memes moeten niet de boventoon voeren denk ik

  • I do hope Kinta won't be too reoccurring. That might become a breaking point for me.

  • Suika was 12 when everyone was petrified, 18 afterwards, so it took her six years

    I see, thanks

  • Yeah I figured that would be it

  • Suika was still a child, and it's how children think

Definitely! It's more how they executed it rather than the actual events that made it unbelievable. It was so on the nose.

  • Good season, although I didn't really care for this kaiju arc. Probably because I really don't like Kinta as a character. He has a character type I really don't like: arrogant without anything to really back that up. That seems to be his purpose, as the other characters don't like him either, but idk. I hope he doesn't become too reoccurring.

    Hyped for next season.

  • I don't expect it to actually come out until 2027

If they keep the same cadence as they have been, I'd expect Spring 2026

  • I started watching this one when it was already halfway through. I didn't really know what to expect aside from edge, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't nearly as edgy as I thought it was going to be.

This world of this anime doesn't feel like a standard fantasy world to me. The different humanoid factions (that aren't just elves and dwarves) were interesting and the actual dominance of the magical beasts was cool too. There's much more to the world to explore too. I think that's one of the biggest draws for me.

The battles were exciting too where I didn't necessarily know where they'd go.

Characters were decent. Wouldn't say they're the most developed, but not static either. I liked the 3 main characters. I'm not sure what to think about Nell being "beautified" after being healed. It felt kind of like they thought the audience wouldn't like her if she wasn't a hot girl.

I'm a little bummed about season 2 to be seemingly set in a school though. A fair amount of fantasy anime seem to pivot towards some school arc somewhere along the line, even if it didn't start out as such. I don't really get it. There are so many school anime, why does the non-school one have to go to school too? Oh well, maybe they'll do something interesting with it.

Also, the OP is a banger.

  • So did it take Suika 7 years to make it or was Senku in there for 7 years? If so, I wonder how long Suika was petrified. Decently long I suppose, because of the moss and tattered clothes and all, but I can't really get an idea

  • The plan comes as the country aims to triple overseas revenue from Japanese content to ¥20 trillion in 2033.

I do hope this won't mean that they'll cater to overseas audiences to achieve this. Sure, it'll be somewhat unavoidable, but I'd like it to stay uniquely Japanese in style.

raising the upper limit on the industry ministry's subsidies for video productions

God I hope the animators benefit from this and it doesn't just disappear into the pockets of the production committees.

  • And I'm glad it did

Not that I disagree, but I could've done without the "ew it's just scrap paper" and "nah screw the slow one" moments. It was so obvious those were the actual problem solvers. I feel like there are more graceful ways to give hints lmao.

  • paying for media that i don't own in any sense is a complete non starter for me so we'll have to disagree about the value of subscriptions.

That's fair, but calling it a scam is a bit much in that case imo.

when ebooks barely cost less than physical volumes without any of the utility, that's absolutely scammy.

Not sure how it is for you, but most of the e-books are at least half the price of the physical volumes where I live. The only exception is the publisher Seven Seas, which is more 3/4 of the price. For example, Demon Slayer is 12 euros physical, but 6 euros digital.

And e-books definitely have utility, like no need for storage space. They're also easier for travel, since it all fits on one device.

  • paying for digital manga is an absolute fucking scam

From services like Manga UP, totally.

But I think Manga Plus, which is a flat subscription fee, is fine. Buying volumes on e-book stores like Bookwalker, Kobo or Kindle completely fine too (Kobo is the nicest IMO).

  • This is quite misleading and makes it seem there was an official minute of silence. But there was no minute of silence. The original request by the far-right ECR was denied. They tried to do so anyway during a statement by yielding their time, which was interrupted as a result. Then they threw a hissyfit

  • Things start to feel more intriguing around episodes 8 or 9, and by episode 12/13 the tone shifts dramatically.

Yeah, it's a real slowburn, so I understand why you gave up on it the 1st time.

Yes - it's "the dark magical girl show", but it doesn't even feel as dark as I was personally bracing for.

I think there are two reasons for that:

    1. You went into it knowing it was going to be dark. At the time, no one knew until the famous Mamiko scene. Everyone thought it was going to be a standard magical girl anime. It was a proper twist.
    2. Edgy/dark magical girl shows have kinda become normal and yeah, have really pushed the edge further. Madoka popularized dark magical girl shows.

  • If this song is too close to YOSHIKI's style, then they need to worry about most of the power metal scene. This is pretty standard power metal, good power metal, but pretty standard.
