  • Some people, especially teachers, burn in your memory.

I had a same"ish" thing with a teacher who tried to flunk me but failed at his own math. Funnily the guy who couldnt count and divide gave general economics, business economics and business administration. He hated my guts and I his.

Anyway, My average was a 8.5, he gave me a 3 for an oral exam thinking he flunked me as it was half of the total average before the written exams. He Glee fully shared my grade with the class. I reminded him as emotionless as I could that 8.5+3=11.5/2=5,75 so still a pass. And with the written exam on the horizon, which I would not screw up because I was good at it and he would be unable to screw me over on it because written exams are checked by several other teachers as well..

He just lost it. He bursted in flames, started raging and kicked me out of all his classes for the rest of the year. This was in december/January, the exams where in may.

Naturally I passed all his classes with even the highest grades of the school for the written exams. It was very clear to every one he tried to fuck me over when seeing the grades.

Every teacher congratulated me. Asking me how the f i did that without any lessons. Except he. He saw me at the exam presentation, got all red and just fucking left.

I laughed at the loser he was. I still remember the law prof smirking as well over the situation. And his name i cant remember. But this guy who tried to fuck me over because he just didnt liked me.. his name is burned in my brain forever.

And I remember all this to this day. This was in 1994. What an ass that guy was. It was also my first experience that most Adult people are not honest. And that them being nice is mostly a charade. And they will fuck you over for looking the wrong way or especially for a small percentage.

  • 15? I pay like 80 euro for 1 year m365 family. That's 5 Terrabyte for 80/12=6,66 euro/month.

That's less then a cent per GB. Much less. Combine that with Amazon photos (Unlimited photo storage, included with prime) and i'm set.

There is no cheaper storage plan.

  • Nothing.

You get as lot of extra tools which integrate but my honest opinion is nothing.

Thats Why i stated 5 TB cloud storage for less then the competition as usp.

  • As an oppo user I can only say: you're wrong. You're very wrong.

Samsung one UI is a godsend compared with this.... This .. shit.

Popups, tracking, insane ui choices. Half of the shit doesn't work behind a pihole which in itself is damning enough. Everything feels bolted on. Everything feels like its only there to check boxes. Nothing feels natural. Gestures here but not there. Apple style features in Android so half of the time you're totally lost: does this option still use standard Android logic or is this rewritten as an apple clone?

I really feel tricked into buying this phone. Excellent reviews but the user experience is very lacking. Maybe all of the reviewers are apple users and are happy to see all this shit in Android but I for one am lost. I use Android because i hate the apple way of doing things. If i wanted an apple device I would've bought an apple device.

I kept it because i thought it would get used to it. I did not.

  • I dunno, I still find m365 family a great deal. 5TB cloud storage for less then 100 euro a year? And get the best most complète Office suite as a bonus?

If you compare that to the competition it's a slam dunk. I need cloud storage. I need an office suite.

Same goes for prime here in NL by the way. Unlimited photo storage, free games monthly, streaming, Luna, free shipping for less then 6 euro.

  • Yep, regular guy in the 80s doing programming.

Thats even now not so regular, that was very special and very high paying back then.

So amazingly, you being in your 70s (80s where 40 years ago after all) now and still unable to really fathom, comprehend, how very very good you probably still have it compared to others is telling enough. And that was one of the two binary options i gave for the 80s: too young too comprehend, too rich to care. You clearly fell and probably still fall in the latter category.

Not a lot 70+ year olds on Lemmy btw.

That all, combined with the use of the lpt acronym makes me doubt your age. That, or i'm talking to a llm.

Binary is boring that is true. It also has a 50% chance of being right the first time.

  • Well if you enjoyed the 80s soooo much then a) you where too young to grasp the problems facing your parents or b) you where too well off.

Just look at the cinema and listen to the music of my fine period.

Everything, every theme was: please dont kill us and can i have a room to call my own.

The politics where insane, mortgage rates of 10-15% where the norm, enormous economic shifts.

The 90s where fun but the eighties where, in my experience, very, very dark.

Ever listened to, I dunno, two tribes, war, dancing with tears in my eyes, Russians, etc.? Those first albums of u2? Really grasped what Terminator was about? Wall Street? Or the much lighter but still terribly fucked Trading Places?

It was all really dark stuff, my brother. Fun, but very dark.

  • There was no oil crisis, no cold war, no economic crash in the 80s, no housing shortage in the 80s, no rampant crime!

    The 70/80s where glorious!

    /Sssss

  • Can we please, stop reposting this same shit pic for the last, I dunno, year?

This is the gazillionth time. I get it. Is a stupid algea tank. where a simple tree does the same for a fraction of the cost. It's of no use in the public space except as a tech demo or art object.

    So. Yeah... Next?

  • I think he is old, like me and means aldus photostyler. Which was light years ahead of adobe in background separation.

  • We all knew. We gave him money anyway because WHEN (or better: if) he delivers, he always delivered good stuff. Wingco, wingco 2, strike commander, wingco3, 4, prophecy, starlancer and freelancer. That last one mostly.

I gambled with money i could lose. Still doesn't think it was a wrong decision. Is my money gone? Yeah. It cost me, in those12 years, like 1 restaurant visit.

I also gambled the same amount with elite dangerous. That one delivered. So 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

    1. Blockbuster didnt exist in the EU.

  • That's. Uh.. the entire idea of a kickstarter.

It may crash and burn. Don't want that, don't back anything on kickstarter.

  • Although i think you're right, you too where once a kid.

And. Tell me. What did you do with your money back then? Everything you bought was well thought out? You still use day to day everything you bought back then? Or where you just a child and did you buy candy, fireworks, some comics, that game console you sold 2 years later for not even half the price, that cheap rc car which broke after 1 day?

Its a slippery slope. Just because something doesn't have value to you does not mean the same applies to someone else.

Stuff like this can give kids a certain social standing in the brutal world of the classroom. That's something to consider also, group pressure, wanting to fit in. The need to be part of the group.

Allowance is a learning experience. My son did the same, for years bought only fortnite skins with his allowance. Like you i warned him against it. But i never forbid it. He's 14 now and regrets it.

He doesn't buy fortnite skins anymore. That's the end goal, isn't it? To learn and move on?

  • We've done that already a few times. After over 3000 years of empires must we really? Again? The Greek empire, the roman empire, the spanish empire, the holy roman empire, the dutch golden century, the British (largest globe spanning empire ever) and French empires, Austria Hungaria and I'm quite certain even Portugal had its day. And let's not forget Germany. Or the Soviet union and tsarist Russia. Also nice as far as empires go.

    Anyway..

    Sigh.

    Fine.

But dont come crying if you dont like the outcome.

Pax Americana only ended because you guys voted for it. We where fine with it, hanging out, buying your shit. Using your tech.

  • I should look hard and long at Intel Arc if i was you. Those are nice and a clear move up the ladder from where you are at. And they are reasonably priced.

  • I was in the same boat. Then I decided that the 50x0 was a paper launch and the leaks told me that the 9070XT would lower or have the same performance as the 7900xtx.

Then the 7900xtx dropped in price, clearing the channel for the new gen.

    Then I bought that.

Ever since I've been wondering... Why didn't I buy this thing earlier?

It's more then fast enough. The RT performance is above the 3080.

Every 9070XT I can buy now is almost 200 euro more then what i payed for the 7900xtx.

What I learned? Buy previous gen in it's "dying" weeks.

  • From a musk pov it's 100% logical. Money.

Why? Win2k was quite stable. Stable enough to use it in warships.

Linux/Bsd is not free. When you use it in your company you want pro support. That support comes free with windows enterprise licenses. So the cost difference there is almost non existent. And, MS being M$, they would've sweetened the deal. A lot. Just think of the marketing worth of this deal for MS.

And lastly: Who is cheaper? A good linux admin or a windows guy?

So 90% of the stability at 50% of the cost. That's not a bad deal.

  • I don't get this. Y'all should talk to a psychologist. Its a goddamn mobile phone. If you don't want to use a device's primary function maybe you should use something else to browse porn.

And if talking to people makes you anxious and makes you feel violated or makes it feel like someone is disrespecting your private bubble...

You should go out more. Without that gd device in your pocket because clearly, obviously to everyone else but you that device is hampering you, limiting you even hurting you.

    This is crazy.

  • Fyi, UK, NL, FR, ES etc all went with you on your "right of passage" sail throughs, against the chinese. Thats NATO.

Guess who can do that all on its own from now on.

Guess which countries also put sanctions on china? Your NATO partners.

Guess where the machines most chips are made with... Are being made? (NL says hi.)

If you stop scratching our back.. Why should we still scratch yours? The chinese market is double yours. We can make more euros there then in your tariff hellscape.

Have fun having the biggest military for the time being. In a few years china has eclipsed yours.

Trump's tantrums have made it very clear we should buy our military gear locally. So we will. Same will happen with cloud and tech. You can't be trusted. One day everything is ok, next day everything is +25%

If this continues for a few more months it will mean the end of US hegemony. You will be left with nothing.

In the end we will make peace with Russia, simply because we must. The oil will flow west again in a few years leaving you with all the problems of fracking and zero gains.

    Same will happen with china.

    We will be allright, bud.

From an EU standpoint it doesn't matter if the US, china or even Russia is our partner. It mattered because of history. But trump's US chooses to flush it all down the drain. So we will check if the turd really went down.
