  • I’m not stalking you also, but my Lemmy client tells me I have voted your comments at a total of +156

  • I loved watching Lost on my computer. Whatever files I downloaded had Sun and Jin’s lines translated to English, then superimposed ON TOP OF THEIR translated lines it said “(SPEAKING KOREAN)” every time they talked.

  • I go to a phone store every time I get a new phone!

checks when my last phone was bought… 2018

I go to a phone store every six or seven years!

  • My partner and I got Palworld when it came out, played maybe five or six hours…. I tried again solo later and got to level 10 or 15. Just recently, my partner saw me playing Enshrouded and mentioned wanting to try Palworld again… we started it up and put ten hour into it in one day. Yesterday we picked it up again, and put another ten hours in. Having a really fun time.

  • That game is insidious. I started it one day, played six or seven hours a day for a week, hit 30ish hours, and beat the game. I couldn’t do anything else. I was so sucked in. Great game!

  • Gawd I love those lil snoot friends!

  • I impulse bought a MacBook Air a couple months ago because it was a great deal and my old Mac I still use is a 2011 MacBook Pro. I then had a longish hospital stay and used my new air 24 hours a day for a week and a half. It saved my life, I love it so much.

At home now I’m still mostly on my W10 or Linux desktops, but I bust the air out still to text people with a full keyboard or just have another machine handy to look things up. I hope I can keep it for as long as my 2011 MBP!

  • My partner and I share all money, and we don’t really spend a lot other then on food, shelter, and the like. This means we have a fairly decent sum of money pooled for the future.

Similar to your first paragraph, if there’s something either of us have been talking about for a while and we find a really good price on it, we just get it without worrying. I was looking for deals on a new Apple Watch a couple months ago because we’re still using the first one that came out and it’s crazy slow and the battery only lasts eight hours now (they’re like a decade old.)

I didn’t find any watch deals, but I found a killer deal on an m4 MacBook Air. We’ve been talking about transferring our pictures off of our 2011 15” MacBook pro that still works great (added SSD, doubled RAM) because it’s so old. Instantly picked up the air. (Turns out a couple weeks later I had to hospital for a week and a half and that air was the BEST THING EVER for me there, being able to watch any movie I want ever and play games was a BOON)

I did recently find a big discount on new Apple Watches too, so I picked us both up a new one. We’ve been alluding to wanting a fresh one for five years or so—if we keep these new watches for a decade again, that’s an extremely worthy purchase!

I know Lemmy hates Apple, but I gotta say, all of the Apple shit I buy, I use for stupidly long times. Each phone has been 4-6 years, my 2011 MBP still serves me well, both of our old AirPods are like eight years old and my partner and I used them 40+ hours a week at work for years, and they still hold a charge fine…

I love my W10 machines for games and Linux for doing behind-the-scenes stuff, but damn if that little MacBook wasn’t the exact thing I needed sitting in the hospital for an eternity. I hope I can keep it for a decade lawl

My only white whale lately has been a Herman miller aeron. As soon as I find a good quality used one cor 300-500USD, I’m on my way. We took a trip a couple towns over recently to look at one for 400USD but I realized the recline lock was broken so they wouldn’t sell it to me, they just took my number and said they’d call if a fully working one comes in. …I’d take the broken one for 150 bux if it can’t be fixed… It was so damn comfy I would just leave it in the living room and sit there whenever company is over.

  • A ball of 90% pure (tested myself) round me is about 200USD. A couple bumps gets me gakked for at least an hour. I could OD easily for about 100USD… that’s like 8GB of DDR4 or some shit hahaha

  • My partner and I showered today. I think it’s been a week. They smelled good before and after but different good.

  • Oh my gawd it’s best thing. Hospital was insane but very interesting and by the time I got home I was feeling pretty awesome… my boss told me to not think about work and that he set me up for a leave of absence I still get paid for with HR. I’m treasuring every day.

  • I picked it up, put 30 hours into it in just a few days, and beat it.

    Would HIGHLY recommend.

  • Muramasa gang

  • Oh dear.. I was in hospital a few weeks ago and I’ve been recovering at home. In the last two weeks I’ve manly played three games: 64 hours in the first, 50 hours in the second, and 10 hours in the third (that one was all in one day)

I’d never use a thing like GeForce Now either way, but I’d be boned hahaha

  • All I need to do is dip into a vial of LSD to feel childlike wonder and glee!

  • That’s fair haha. Mine now lives face-to-face with my partner’s identical (but newer and more powerful) machine behind their big screen next to my desk, so lights wouldn’t do anything for me if I had them anymore.

  • Oh very true. I love some blinky lights as long as I can set them to ALWAYS BE OFF when I want.

I was able to find some lovely replacement parts for all my RGB stuff though. I could have gone with a much cheaper CPU cooler, but I just loved how giant and chonky the d15 is. You can get black fans everywhere, I think I got some Corsair silent fans to replace all my RGB fans. RAM was easy to find RGB-free.

My mobo still has RGB but that was mega easy to disable forever. PSU is a KW black.

So how I have a beautiful silent blacked-out machine, and a drawer with a great working PSU, 32GB RAM, three RGB 120mm fans, and a 280mm RGB AIO just chillin there. Maybe I’ll make another machine with them sometime.

Quick edit: I DO want my keyboard and mouse to have lights on them. I live and work in a very low-light house because I’m a gremlin, and having dim lights and shine-through keycaps allows me to find keys I don’t hit as often when I need to, or find my mouse on my desk when it runs away.

  • Physically assembling a full RBG machine is a nightmare. My current machine was a Meshify C fully rainbow’d out because I wanted to. Each fan goes from one wire to many wire, there’s an RGB controller they all have to go to that just stuck onto the back of the motherboard that also connects to a fan speed controller back there that leads to a port on the mobo, the radiator has to mount and those fans have many wire too cuz they’re RGB and wiring is a nightmare mess. Then one fan’s RGB started going crazy and just flashing randomly so I had to the that off in the extra software tab has to run at startup, then a radiator fan started spinning weird so I had to RMA the whole AIO and while I got a new one, it’s still in box.

I now have five silent black 120mm fans and a black Noctua d15. RGB RAM (identical pieces that never had their rainbow color sync up) have been replaced with black RAM. Never again.

  • My partner and I watch a fellow (Brutalmoose) play retro/vintage games. Mostly Windows 98/XP/DOS/older consoles. When he busted out his Windows 98 machine built by LGR on YouTube, I was astounded at how simple and professional 98 looks. Windows XP looks like a toy compared to 98.

I will never get over Windows 7 Start Menu/Explorer, though. I loved it. I use OpenShell to make all of my Windows 10 machines have Windows 7 start menus, with their good indexed search (no internet results) and excellent Explorer UI I’ve been used to forever.

I got a Windows 11 machine at work and I fucking hate everything about it. They won’t let me install OpenShell because they “don’t allow open-source software” (insane)
