Actual fact: Americans don’t learn about John Brown because John Brown’s existence highlights a lot of ugly truths about American history, the American people at the time, and how corrupted the core of the American experiment really is.

John Brown is a very well known figure in the US, and widely taught about.

Idk, banning any slight USA “criticism” (if that’s even what that was) feels like unnecessary shrinking the community, but modding is work too & someone has got to do it … then again vibe banning feels like a wrong way forward.

It wasn't about "USA criticism", but the idea that South Korea is an American 'colony' is not only bizarre but a common tankie canard - one which you repeated in several comments in that thread.

Generally I don’t think ppl should be banned solely on pov (without being uncivil or something actually bad). No warning or a chance to reply. Just ban.

POV is often something actually bad. I'm not here to make the comms I moderate a safe space for campists and fascists or their talking points. If you want to talk bullshit about 'occupied Korea', that's what the tankie triad is for.

This isn't a metaphorical Nazi bar, and I'm not about to let it become one no matter how politely it's phrased.

I have no patience for campism, which puts me on the bad side of many people on here who adore playing tribalist games about how some atrocities and some racism is good, for some bizarre fucking reason.

Separately, I argue with a very bitter tone, which also puts me on the bad side of many people, and those folk are much more justified in feeling negatively towards me.

Yes, which resulted in the fascist victory we are now 'enjoying'. Thank you for agreeing with the point I was making. I mean, sure, you had to play your usual bullshit games first, but what's a ZombiFrancis comment without carrying water for literal fascists?

The protest and third party voters, who turned out and did not abstain, were small enough not to decide the election.

Good thing the source I provided was talking largely about abstainers, but that would require actually reading the source instead of projection.

I won't disagree, both because I'm not active on Bluesky or Twitter, and because I know that people are fucking immensely stupid and repugnant regardless of ideology - and liberalism is not exactly a sunshine and rainbows ideology to begin with. But most discourse I saw that applied actual blame to minorities wrt the election was around Arab-Americans.

While I regard protest votes and abstaining as universally unacceptable, the shift of Arab-Americans away from the Dems in 2024 lost us one state, at best - whereas we needed to pick up (or not lose, depending on how you want to see things) three. So while I condemn that on a moral level, strategically, it means very little, and the people who narrow in on that are either expressing some latent racism or trying to avoid the broader issue that the DNC royally screwed the pooch - something that Lemmy, for all of its other faults, quite freely admits.

Most of the discourse around the Latino vote I saw was either shock, or in the context of the male vote in general and without application of blame of the wider electoral failure to the Latino vote. But, again, I'm not trying to contradict that such things were said. I certainly run in left-liberal information bubbles where that kind of talk would be verboten to begin with.

Jill Stein wasn’t a pro-genocide candidate and nobody voted for her, americans wanted genocide in exchange to be treated as special.
